See ya later, I'm selling BladeForums!

I wouldnt call this a ressurection--this thread has steadily been getting comments since it originated, and I'm glad, because I'm reading it for the first time today! I'm pretty content with the way this site is run, and really wouldn't like to see much change. Thanks for keeping it real Spark!

Every man has his price, even the Prince of Darkness can be bought. So, what will it take, 3 figures, 4 figures, 5 figures, 6 figures??? How about a trade...pygmy farm, Soylent Green Specialty Biscuits processing plant....a game of chess, winner take all...renovated Nevada brothel...what?:D

Thank you Spark. I'm relatively new to BF, but I've met some really great people in these forums and made good friends. I've also learned a great deal not only about cutlery itself, but about the community of people who are passionate about their particular brand. It's not all about money and you prove that each time you tell them to stick it.

Proud member of: BF, BCCI, and NRA.

Who cares who owns what

Uh, who cares? I care. Though I am new here, the OP of this thread has really made me consider supporting the site financially - as I was recently disappointed with another forum (the largest music forum online) when it was sold to a major retailer and very quickly turned to doggy dung. Yes, I left.

It's the difference between a quality "mom and pop shop" vs. a corporate big wig that cares only about the bottom line (i.e. - in turn quality decline).

Nice to see people like yourself who are really interested in the mission of the site, not just the money. Hopefully more people will contribute to the upkeep. And you're right...it's a great site the way it is. Thanks for all of it.

My thoughts about our current state of affairs in this country: "Man, when is enough ... enough???". How much money do you need? What happened to providing products and services for their own sake? Sure we all have to make a living - but why the focus on more? When will it be enough?

If I am focused only on More... it changes the focus from making a product or service better for you... to making a product or service better for me. That, is selfishness. Selfishness ends in deceit, control, cheap products, misinformation, and ultimately… failure.

Therefore, it is nice to come across something like this forum where its existance is for its own sake... not for someones profit.

Keep it up!

New to this website, but have been looking at the forums for a little longer than I've been a user, this is a very nice and helpful place and I appreciate that I don't have to wade through ads to get information. Thank you, Spark.

I hope you do not ever sell it. I'll stay a Gold member to help it stay as it is.
I am a member of a site known as LightningRodder, for us Ford Lightning owners. The two founders recently caved and sold it to some internet conglomerate. Man has it gone downhill fast since then. They stated there would be no changes, and changes keep happening. They eliminated tapatalk (which I do not use, but many others do), so a lot of people left permanently and started a new site called LightningGarage.

What a farce. Please do not sell out to some fucking internet giant. I love this site, much as I love my knives.

I have ta agree with ya Sir!! I know I'm a newby and I've got ta learn about knives on general, but ya have the most info and folks that are willing ta help. I've visited other sites before, but this site makes me feel like I'm at home. Never sell out ta co-operate America for they just onterested in money, money, money. I enjoy it here and I'm learning a lot, thanks for allowing me ta be a part of BladeForums.com. Joseph

I just read your post Spark, and would offer there's a reason I've come back to play over the years. Of all the choices this feels the most like home, as it could be, and really appreciate the way this place is run; by and for knife people, and I hope to be coming back for many years to come.

Thanks and Cheers!

Every couple weeks or so I get calls or emails from various parties interested in purchasing this site.

Just to clear up any misconceptions, I'm not interested in selling it to anyone. You guys are awesome, this is a great community, so why would I let anyone else come in and take it?

So, when I get calls from "brokers" or whomever who want to make me an offer, I lean back and I smile, because I know what's up. Nobody wants to purchase this site for altruistic reasons. They want to buy it because they know it's under monetized. The lack of banner ads everywhere, skimlinks, text ads, etc make this a gold mine to anyone who can get it for themselves. What they fail to understand is that it's that way for a reason.

"We represent a client who would like to make you an offer for the site, are you interested in selling?" is how the pitch usually goes. Typically I'll respond with "Sure, but it will cost you a ridiculous amount of money." Banter goes back and forth and most often it will end with them saying "We're prepared to offer you... 4 to 5 times your annual earnings!"

:jerkit:

They never expect to hear someone laugh at that line. I'm sure people eagerly hop on that like it's some sort of lifeline. But for me, I think we do a better job than anyone else out there in our niche. You guys largely police yourselves, the community is amazing, there aren't huge problems all the time, and in general things are just fine as they are. We are a resource to the community. We provide information, interaction, and more. Why on earth would I let someone else come in and screw that up? I'm not an idiot; if I wanted to heavily monetize the site, I would do so. That I haven't should say a lot.

Thank you guys for being so great. Thank you for contributing to the group. Thanks for supporting the site.

That's great.

I am new to the site, and really enjoying the functionality, lack of ads, and most importantly the wealth of information it offers.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Thanks spark!!! This is the best site on the web for sure. I for one truly respect you for not selling out to low life money hungry people.

I'll give you 30 pieces of silver for the site! Take it or leave it!!! ;) Thanks for keeping up the best medium for discussion of our crazy hobby! This place is great, and it would break my heart if it were sold to someone who didn't share our passion (insane as it might be). This site is AWESOME!!!!!!!

I'm a newbie here and a newbie in the knife world and even I know this is the pace to be for anything blade related. TOPS in my book.
