See ya later, I'm selling BladeForums!

this is the only form that I dont mind one bit to be a paying member. I am on some other forms that deal with knifes and they are the biggest joke that there is and if they told me I had to buy a membership that I would tell them see ya. thank you very much.

I just renewed on July 1st with a Platinum membership. I'm proud to support this site, and the folks who run it.

Thanks Spark and everyone - moderators and members. :)

It's pretty amazing how this site has grown since I joined. Good job.

@Admin: You are like me, really passionate, and money is worth nothing compared with joy to share and participate in a community of other enthusiasts.
thanks a lot !

So upgrade your user group to reflect your status, Chris. :p

Thanks for not selling and for everything that says about you, I love it here :)

That the person who owns this site lives in Louisville is mind blowing to me, I don't know why, :p

Many, many thanks Spark for doing what you do and for keeping Bladeforms the way that it is.
Jim

Thanks, Spark.

I don't want to spoil your weekly entertainment, but I bet a poll that asked how many paying members would leave if the site was sold to a commercializer would reduce the phone calls. :-)

Every couple weeks or so I get calls or emails from various parties interested in purchasing this site.

Just to clear up any misconceptions, I'm not interested in selling it to anyone. You guys are awesome, this is a great community, so why would I let anyone else come in and take it?

So, when I get calls from "brokers" or whomever who want to make me an offer, I lean back and I smile, because I know what's up. Nobody wants to purchase this site for altruistic reasons. They want to buy it because they know it's under monetized. The lack of banner ads everywhere, skimlinks, text ads, etc make this a gold mine to anyone who can get it for themselves. What they fail to understand is that it's that way for a reason.

"We represent a client who would like to make you an offer for the site, are you interested in selling?" is how the pitch usually goes. Typically I'll respond with "Sure, but it will cost you a ridiculous amount of money." Banter goes back and forth and most often it will end with them saying "We're prepared to offer you... 4 to 5 times your annual earnings!"

:jerkit:

They never expect to hear someone laugh at that line. I'm sure people eagerly hop on that like it's some sort of lifeline. But for me, I think we do a better job than anyone else out there in our niche. You guys largely police yourselves, the community is amazing, there aren't huge problems all the time, and in general things are just fine as they are. We are a resource to the community. We provide information, interaction, and more. Why on earth would I let someone else come in and screw that up? I'm not an idiot; if I wanted to heavily monetize the site, I would do so. That I haven't should say a lot.

Thank you guys for being so great. Thank you for contributing to the group. Thanks for supporting the site.

That's why I like bladeforums, good leadership with morals.

Keep it going, I'm extremely proud to be among elite knife owners =)....give me just a few weeks and I'll be getting that Blue Skyline for myself!

Thanks, Sparky for resisting the urge to sell in order to keep BF the way it is. I really do like being a member here and the annual rates are totally worth it. It's great to have such an awesome pool of knowledge, help and humor on the internet that is run by people who actually care. Your work is much appreciated.

Just for that alone I'm renewing when my time comes. That and the 1000 other reasons.

u da man Spark... thanks. I just paid for my membership the other day :D

THANK YOU SPARK!!

Now, if all you responders who are in favor of Spark's esprit de corps and lack of greed would AT THE VERY LEAST pay the measly $10 for a basic membership, then you could really feel a part of the group and be a contributor instead of a taker.

I'm relieved, and thanks for not giving in! I think this site would be ruined with adds and increased fees. Thanks for keeping in real!
