Selecting Stag on traditionals...

So, it's snowing like crazy out there!! My downstairs tenant, God Bless her, shoveled the walk already, but it's going to need it again soon!!
I don't feel like going out there, even though it's only just below freezing - brrrrrr!
Got a package in the mail to warm me up though!!
With all this talk of a Stag shortage, these guys, all 4 1/8" of them, hark back to a time when good Stag was easier to get, (and Case was at the top of their Jackknife game!!)
A friend just bought a nice estate collection of Stag knives, and sent me these two!!
Ah, just like a tot of Wild Turkey!!

Oh boy! That's some awesome stag, Charlie! I guess those were the days. Case's Stag is now usually pretty anemic in my experience.

Those are fantastic! Some of the nicest Case Stag that I've seen. -Lance

Thanks Dave, Alan, Gary and The Fort!! I feel lucky that these came up at the right time!!
I wonder if older Stag knives will gain interest from all the talk of shortages and lower quality?
Maybe a new source will emerge!
Just shoveled the walk - again!

Oh man, that is some great looking stag!! Love the coloring!

Man o man, Charlie, those Cases must be old, 'cause I've never seen stag like that on a Case in my lifetime! Super fine!

Glad you like them, Mitch! I keep dropping what I am doing, and going into my den to CF and CE them!! "In here, honey!!"

Thanks, Jeff! 1940 to 1964, so 65 years or so!

Shoveled? What's that? You on ditch digging duty or something? ;)
Seems like it!! My neighbor is out there pulling the third shift!! If we keep at it we won't be buried!!:p

waynorth waynorth I have NEVER seen Case with stag that nice. Jaw dropping

I'm right with you, Hamsco!! You can often see it on one side of a knife, but hardly ever matching like those two! It came from a carefully curated, Case Stag collection. That doesn't come along too often!! I feel fortunate to have been there.

Charlie, I just showed Sue the snow photo- we cant believe the transformation from when we were looking from that view to now- Wow!
The Stag on those Case Knives is as good as it can get- Bark all the way and real thin meeting the Liner- simply Perfect in every way!!!
I just dont know how you do it charlie because those two Knives are as good as it gets, that must have been some collection of case Knives.

I tried to use the information I learned in this thread in selecting this GEC 56 single blade. Of course, because these knives sell so fast, I did not have a lot of knives to choose from. I looked for stag with character and which extended as far as possible from bolster to bolster. I looked for a well matched pair. Also, even though the photos do not show it, the stag is nice and thin.

Hah! There is twice as much snow out there this morning, Duncan. I am just going out there to shovel it, yet again! Hi Sue!!
Apparently there were close to 200 knives in the Stag collection. I have one more coming. (As you can imagine, they are not cheap!)

Here is more temptation Charlie waynorth waynorth Dave’s knives are amazing. Horsewright Horsewright This is a very small one that sits in a horizontal leather sheath on my belt. Always accessible, but you are not even aware it’s there.

Thank you for your comments on my Stag GEC 56. This forum has been a great place for me to speed up my learning curve. It is such a pleasure to have people like you, Dave, and JH Lloyd @John L himself sharing information with us.

Mine has to be all stag :)
Seriously when it comes to stag I like them all . If it doesn’t match to me it just looks more natural. If it matches that’s ok to .
So guess what I’m saying is I like all stag covers .
