i realize this is a touchy subject... and i also fully comprehend that knives arent exactly the best self-defense weapons... but this is a topic that has always interested me on some level. hypothetically speaking, if you ever needed to employ a folder in a self-defense scenerio, which folder would you choose, and why?

Wow, you're brave. These questions never seem to get a legitimate answer. It's always things like "Whichever one is in my pocket", "It's not the knife, it's the operator", ect.

My personal opinion is the Spyderco Endura preferably with the spyderedge and the emerson wave feature. I found that the wave takes a little practice to get used to. The only down side I can see to the wave, and it could prove to be a BIG downside, is that every once in a while, when I drew the knife, the wave got hung up on my pants pocket. Again though, this is probably because I only owned it for a brief period of time, and didn't work with it as much as I should have.

I don't think it matters a whole lot which one you choose, as long as it's well-built. I'd say the Spyderco Paramilitary 1/2 or Military.

Personal favorite would be the Combative Edge M1.
Superb ergonomics.
Excellent blade geometry.
Solid, quality construction.
Available matching trainer.
Great company to do business with.

The biggest damn one you can get your hands on. My picks. Cold Steel Espada or Rajah II.

10" blade big enough?

I have a Rajah I and that would be THE choice - if,and thats a BIG IF that was the only choice.

I would rather leave peacefully,or have a gun,baton,walking stick,mace,Taser,or how about a shotgun ?.

The Protech TR4.
Reasons being:
1. Blade is large but not too heavy. You'd want something that is light enough to swing.
2. Blade deployment is lightning fast and the lock up is solid.
3. It has a skull crusher on the handle and an index finger notch ON the blade. Essentially you can swing it in "helicopter" fashion to stun with a blow from the handle and then slice away if necessary.

My hope is that you never need the knife for this purpose.

Why does this happen in every knife for SD thread? Everybody knows a grenade launcher is better for SD but for one reason or another all we might be able to carry is a knife. So why mention patriot missiles and aircraft carriers?

Don't fight, run,
Unless you have to.
All you need is a 3" blade... and know how to use it.

These are the type of answers that I knew were coming. The OP isn't asking for your moral guidance, or your opinion on whether or not a knife is the best choice for a self defense situation. He asking what KNIFE you would chose if you had to deploy one in a self defense senario, that's it.

Anything you can get and deploy before situation is over. Even trained people don't get their knives deployed 90% of the case fast enough. Perhaps swtichblade if they are legal. For me, I'd choose spear point switch blade, deploying from front and carried it using arm attach deployment system you see in movies and such.

Well, other than that, I doubt I could ever deploy blade fast enough so I might aswell carry Victorinox or Barlow :D

balisong. the bad guys will be laughing so hard after you drop it that you can run to safety safely.

The CUDA MAXX comes 3 sizes: 5.5" blade, 7" blade, and 9" blade. The first two have a pocket clip. The latter has a frog for belt carry.
