i realize this is a touchy subject... and i also fully comprehend that knives arent exactly the best self-defense weapons... but this is a topic that has always interested me on some level. hypothetically speaking, if you ever needed to employ a folder in a self-defense scenerio, which folder would you choose, and why?
These are the type of answers that I knew were coming. The OP isn't asking for your moral guidance, or your opinion on whether or not a knife is the best choice for a self defense situation. He asking what KNIFE you would chose if you had to deploy one in a self defense senario, that's it.
Really, a ball peen hammer in kydex shoulder rig, under a motorcycle vest? Why not just walk up to a police officer and ask for a felony arrest. :thumbdn:
CM honestly believes that he is well within his legal rights to carry the hammer concealed. He's stated as much several times. For the record, I'm with you, and think you would be arrested if found carrying that.
This is a pretty good website to clear up any misconceptions about self defense with a knife

I'm not sure how much advise I'd take from a guy who's primary goal is to sell me something. That's like me saying, "Here's a site that tells you why a knife is an effective tool for self defense".

cold steel 88k... kidding
aps baton is better than a folder, I believe
off-topic: i love CM's stuff i thought that hammer was great lol
on-topic: i wouldnt get an expsensive knife like a strider well because... if you stab someone.... self defence or not... you weapon will be taken as evidence... uh ohh there goes my $300 strider
i would go more of like cold steel and kershaw
i love the Spyderco Endura Waved
Cold Steels' Rajah II and Spartan are both BEASTS. super strong locks great handle feel and giant blades... and both can flip out like a waved knife because of that thumbstud thing
but i agree with people that waved isnt always the best because it can snag on your pocket and get caught up... even with practice but i know the rajah and spartan can flick open with a flick of the wrist if you practice
Kershaw has alot of good models with flippers. i love the Groove and the Groove Tanto
they feel great in your hand, the flipper opens them ina flash AND i have been pulled over and searched many of time with the regular Groove (4 inch blade) and never had a cop be like WTF? even if my shirt is covering the pocket clip... once i was told its a knice knife lol. the Spartan however... i was advised not to carry and told that most officers would have arested me for CCW.

Even if someone's primary goal is to sell something doesn't automatically make whatever they're selling a gimmick. Just about every knife maker's primary goal is to "sell something" but they must be doing something right because we're all here (not to say there aren't those out there doing it purely for the craftsmanship, or that those trying to sell a product don't value craftsmanship). I've never bought anything from the site so I'm not trying pitch anything, I just happened to read some stuff off of it and it was pretty logical and seemed applicable to this thread. That said, your point is well received and I appreciate the irony of posting a link to a sales pitch to drive it home. I'll do my best to steer clear of sales pitches in the future.
