Seller changing price

Most all should stay away from the original issue, the Mods were clear that was put to bed.

I generally like to think we as a group can rise above "legal contracts" in so far as what an "I'll take it" etc means, there is a saying here "we are not playing for sheep stations" which means these are generally small beans. It should be that buyers and sellers follow the base etiquette of such things but if they don't then invoking "binding contract" is fairly lame. In the person to person transactions here the most important is what happens once $s have traded hands. I AM NOT saying that the repeat offenders of "I'll take it" and then silence should not be called out and the same with the one who list and remove and re-list there items over and over (when someone has claimed them), the variations on both are painful for all but should simply result in the seasoned marketplace warrior :D placing them on ignore so as not to be tempted. No one's life, liberty or the like are at stake here.

"Lower 48..."
Wait, so they'll ship to Hawaii, but not Alaska or Maine??

I'm guessing that 95% of people saying "CONUS only" would have no problem shipping to Alaska or Hawaii, but say CONUS regardless because it sounds cool and tactical. Words have meanings, people.

"Sharpened, never used, but it's still LNIB..."
Wait, really? Please tell me you have a link to that thread, so I can point and laugh :)

That and they don't realize flat rate is the same as the rest of the US. Of course if you don't send flat rate, zones come into play and that can get more expensive.

Thomas Linton Thomas Linton Thanks for taking the time to clarify this. Although VERY 'legal' it's the final word.

Sure "I'd (also) like to think" we don't need stringent rules such as he noted, but the GB&U, despite the 'best intentions' of buyers and sellers, remains active mostly because it's open to (mis)interpretations.

I appreciate his showing the standards. I have sold MANY things and have never, EVER, had a problem. That's because I am pretty clear in my descriptions and only purchase when the seller describes as such, and has proper feedback.

Ever hopeful! :)

A contract is, basically, a promise for a promise. For me, anyone who cannot keep his word, better have a good excuse to be let off, which has actually happened, but not typically. Mostly, a shinny trail is left behind by those full of it.

I honestly feel its wrong to change the price from $500 to $550 plus shipping, unless the 50 is to cover international shipping. If they raised it to 550 AND charge international shipping, that is wrong, because an item shouldnt be more money just because of where its going. To avoid this, always keep the original price but add more to shipping.

Here's the deal: The seller sets the price and other terms based on his/her own criteria. It is entirely reasonable for a seller to not want to deal with the potential additional hassles of shipping internationally (beyond simply changing the address and paying an additional fee). If he/she wants to add a small premium to the asking price for taking on the additional potential annoyance, that is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. The putative buyer in this situation was dead wrong in his reaction to the price increase.

The premium should be added to shipping and handling charges, not the price. Semantics, I know, but its the principle and would avoid confusion and irritation.

I've sold and bought here since I joined. Some members are better than others when it comes to comms, packing, shipping speed, etc. but I've never, ever, had a bad experience. Not once from a member. I enjoy buying here and when I'm the seller, I'm motivated to do everything right because that's what I see when I'm the buyer.
I can't honestly say that about dealers but overall that was only twice and one of those was Survive!Knives. The other is not even worth mentioning.

Shipping internationally increases risks of loss - more hands handling the package, customs inspections, etc. Would you consider factoring in that increased risk a "handling" expense? If the actual price of international postage was $30, but the seller charged $50 for S&H due to 1) additional PayPal fees for international transactions, 2) additional work involved in filling out customs forms, etc., and 3) additional risk of loss, people would be still be complaining about it being "unfair".

It's threads like this one, and its predecessor, that lead a lot of sellers to just say "screw it, US sales only". Shipping knives internationally involves a lot more cost (including in risk and effort) than just the difference in postage, and international buyers who don't realize that, and complain about it, end up hurting themselves (and their fellow international knife enthusiasts) more than anyone else.

If you are outside the US and REALLY want a knife that's for sale (that requires extra shipping/handling fees) YOU (not the seller) should be taking care of those fees. Same can be said if an international seller has a knife. I have passed on some sales only because they were coming from overseas. I wasn't willing to risk losing that much money on the off chance the knife went missing.

Again, if you don't like the rules or price... Move on. You can be offended all you want, but it's still the seller who has the final say.

Shipping and handling fee’s of course but to arbitrarily change the item price is ridiculous. Shipping etc all negotiable if the seller is willing to ship, the item price itself, should not change, just any further shipping or handling charges should be added. If trades are involved then it’s a whole new game of negotiating.

International shipping the buyers also need to be prepared for customs delays. Customs has 3 weeks to process an item if they get curious. Buyers need to be patient and communicate with the seller.

It shouldn't. It's bait and switch. Dick move? Sure. Still not against the rules.

However, if you respond to a sale that clearly states CONUS only / no international shipping then obviously price is up for negotiation because you're already negotiating the rules set by the seller.

Again, don't like the rules? Move along. Don't like the seller? Move along.

This thread was once again morphed into me defending my reputation here. It’s ridiculous. I know the overwhelming majority of folks here agree with me. Was my attitude shitty? Yes it was..Do i feel bad about it? No.. I don’t. I’m a marine.. don’t like me or my attitude. Move along little doggy. Ain’t no hurt feelings allowed in the knife game. No deal, the person has no place to cry to anyone or impact other deals. My reputation here in a short time speaks for itself.
