September BOTM - 102 in black palm wood/154CM

Can you say the same about a 124 please!
After looking over your list, I find it interesting that out of the 68 knives Buck has released as a BOTM, there has not been a single 124. I don't know the yearly overall sales figures for each model that Buck produces, but it would seem that the 124 is pretty popular. I am surprised that Buck has not released a 124 as BOTM. It would seem that we are due for a 124 BOTM at some point in the future.

I hope this helps because I would like to see a 124 BOTM also.

C&C had a 124 sfo w/ a 5160 blade.
It sold out. Eventually.
It took longer than I thought it would.

So either the 5160 wasn't that popular or the 124 wasn't as popular as I thought.

Do you remember the price ? I ask to get a general cost for what can be expected if Buck does a BOTM 124.

I don't recall as it was about 4 years ago.
Probably about $160.

A good gauge for a possible future knife would be the 2021 124 Legacy knife w/ ebony handle.
Again that didn't sell real well with a price that I believe was just short of $300.

When knives approach that price point sales slow down.

So if they did do a 124 BOTM, I'm guessing they wouldn't make 500 of them.

I think a 124 BOTM would be expensive. When you consider that the standard 124 goes for $185, then you add an upgraded handle and/or blade steel. I could see the price approaching $300. It would have to be really special for me to justify a $300 price. I have a hard time justifying the $185 price of the standard model.

O.B.

Good comparison and gauge for price. Thanks

I checked the 124 Legacy msrp was $275 with a min. advertised price of $219.

The 5160 Frontiersman was offered at $179.99 (tax/shipping inc) through Copper & Clad in fall of 2019. It seems to me there is a great deal more interest in BOTM releases than a mere four years ago, so maybe a 124 would sell despite a higher price.

I would prefer the 124 be added to the custom shop. There was talk that Buck would do just that earlier this summer.

Mine showed up yesterday.

I wonder if Buck will use that grain orientation for a 112/110 folder? The day Buck offers a drop point in the Custom shop I'll order one and since Palm wood has been offered before might go with that..

I think they are very close to adding drop points to the 112 custom option. Frankly, I don't see why it is taking so long. They seem to say it is a web-site problem. One of the reasons for the new web-site was to allow for more flexibility in what is posted. So perhaps that obstacle has been removed. Also, I'm glad this 102 sold out. I passed on it but my willpower was waning. I was weak and got a palm wood 112 a while back.
Edit: I also asked about adding a barehead option for the 110/112 versions. I don't think it is out of the question.

I'm glad I bought this one and got a taste of the black palm handles, they're beautiful! I love it, but I think I'll have to send it back for repair. Nothing was aligned when it was assembled, the pommel and the guard are both off so bad I could feel it before I even got it out of the sheath. Hard to get focus on it in the photos but it's very noticeable in person. I do love the knife though, and I'm confident Buck will fix this issue for me. Have I mentioned this handle is beautiful?

Question for those who ordered this knife, did you receive a free hat? I never received a hat and know that the 102 is considered a hunting knife.

The hunting knives eligible for the free hat are listed under the "shop hunting" tab on Buck's website.

BOTM's are usually always excluded from promotions.
