Serious lags!

Right now everything is very fast.

If I hit the submit reply button and then immediately hit my browsers back button, my post is there. So you can't go by the time a post is logged.

I don't mean to jinx myself, but mine has been pretty good since the last time I posted here. I think that was a few days ago up to a week

I'm a happy camper ;) Nothing has taken more than 20 seconds at the very most for my pages to load

How about only having the search index update only once a day instead of every time a new post is created?

Also, (not tooting my own horn) but I do get paid "big bucks" to work on SQL Servers, Linux Servers, MySQL Servers, Web Servers, Cisco Routers, Switches, Firewalls, etc. So I'm one of those "techie" guys and I work in a hospital so stuff has to stay up 24/7/365 .......and it does. ;)

I don't see a reason to update the search index more than once a day because chances are the newest threads are still on the first or second page of the forum and don't need to be included in search.

Just my $.02 of advice.

I'm used to having people to "pound salt" so please feel free. ;)
If what I am reading is correct, the server is updating the index xxxxx times a day and slowing it down...? David suggests once a day (maybe even twice?). :D

My ears perked up (although I'm a complete idiot to this), but I sure like the math.... :p

LOL. :D

Hey Coop. I basically just meant that by having the search index only update a couple times a day at most that the server will not be spending useful processor time, RAM, and real time trying to update the index after every post.

Hope that helped a little.

I had a period of time today where I couldn't access bladeforums at all, got a V image "database error" for at least a couple of hours. Don't know if that's part of it.

I had the same thing happen. It lasted all day up until now.

Internal DNS server at the ISP failed for some reason, creating a loop that wound up making a DOS style event on the site. We've switched the secondary for the primary and are working on things.

Search is down for right now while I test some settings. Yes, New Posts is part of search.

This was posted in the other thread regarding the outage...

Why Spark Why?!!! I almost went crazy today! I was out for the day today, came home from class and discovered that from about 3PM central time until about 7PM central that BladeForums was down :grumpy:

I actually had to.....(looks left and right)....go outside  it was terrible, it was so bright, even with overcast weather :p

aaahhh! the light! it burns us! :D

And thanks Mark.

Spark, I noticed that the search was just re-enabled and I have just now started getting the lags again and just got the "Redirecting: If you have posted a poll you will now...(something like that)" message when responding to a thread.

Man, I will double up on my membership fees if it means we can get these infuriating lags fixed. Who's with me?

I am so tired of the lags, I have gotten tired of even reporting them. Occurs off and on ALL the time.

Funny, I just checked one of the Car Forums I frequent (www.nasioc.com)

As I wrote this, there were 2,164 members online. The site is like a rocket. No delays. Posts flying.

I checked and BF had 950 members online. Spotty performance. I clicked out to Nasioc when I went twenty seconds for a backout. :grumpy:

There is something other sites are doing that we aren't?
