Seriously, I hate this blade forum . . .

I can control my knife purchases, but sharpening purchases? Forget about it! I just sunk in 150$ into a sharpmaker with add ons! Oh dear Lord protect me from temptation, because the stropman strop/jende kangaroo strop and dia-pastes are calling my name!

Just buy ones that you like enough to have forever and will hold their value. Then keep busy in between by selling ones that have appreciated in value. No harm in that, and you get to handle and use any knife you want.

Eventually you get good at knowing the market, and can purge your collection to make a little money.

Don't buy ones that you might regret being stuck with.

Just my 2 cents, I've been dealing in knives since my grandfather gave me the knife display case from a convenience store he owned when I was 6. I've had the bug ever since, and have purged the collection many times to keep from stagnating.

I agree but I don't worry about a knife holding its value. Just get what you like. I have not sold any knives, nor do I have much inclination to do so.

I am not too bad mostly because my budget won't allow it I get about 1 knife every other month. I would invest in sharpening but the more I look into sharpening the more I want a nice belt system as it seems the only system that can do all grinds/geometries but the learning and the risk are a bit high with it. I also lack the space for it so it will likely never happen until I have a garage or can put it in someone else's garage and have free access to it.

We should start an official thread. knifeaholics anonymous.

I like your avatar. How long do you think Croc Dundee would last today, walking around times square with his knife hanging off his belt?

Not to purposely resurrect this thread again, I had only posted again because in post #52 marcus52AR had "tongue in cheek" pointed me to the the Chris Reeve seperate knife sales area when he knew I was trying to slow down my knife buying and wouldn't ya know it . . . I bought a CR Sebenza this AM. . . Oh ya and maybe another 940-2 here a few days ago (I forgot about that one :().

Congrats! Give us some pics man! C'mon...just a few pics man!!!

I got bit too. I bought 5 knives off the Exchange here this past weekend. Two of them arrived today (Griptillian and Osborne 940). The first good knives I've ever had (and I know I'm slumming by the standards of some of you guys). I'm as happy as a tornado in a trailer park, as Tow-Mater would say.

Very Cool. If a cop saw him as a law abiding citizen, he would look the other way.

Recently I had to visit a family member in the emergency room asap which happened to be right after work. They had a metal detector in the entrance. I had a small Insingo Sebenza in my pocket at the time that I forgot about up till then. With full transparency, I told the officer before going through the metal detector, "I have a pocket knife on me" (I was also wearing a Charhartt winter coat, The coat many construction workers wear. So you could say I fell into a stereotype or profile). He took it, looked at it, and put in in a manillia envelope and told me to pick it up when I left. He should have conficated it and arrested me. But he looked the other way and saw that it was a tool and not a weapon. Sometimes honesty IS the best policy.

Low_rez Low_rez generally they don't arrest you for having it before passing through security and he took it and was kind enough to hold it instead of outright confiscate it. I have never been through a security that didn't give you the opportunity to go place the knife in your vehicle. I could image something happening if the knife were not legal to carry at all that would be another matter.
