Service takes a long TIME!!!

In the past I have always had fast excellent service from CRK, best in the business. Recently though, I have sensed a slowdown in service. I sent my Sebenza in to add dual lugs back in the end of July, it’s been 7 weeks. I got a call yesterday from CRK that my knife was done, I asked what was the hold up? She told me they are going through a change, they are in the transition of raising their production volume. Present orders are so high in demand, CRK decided to step up that side of the business. However she did tell me they will shorten the time frame back to normal on the service side eventually. I can’t speak for the warranty side, I had service done on mine. In my opinion it sounds like they’ll get their act back on track once they settle in with their new work flow.

Hopefully the process will move faster than whatever has happened with the guys in Golden. I've been reminded of the Paramilitary 2 every time someone mentions the 25s availability.

Well, maybe CRK could implement an expedite fee. A customer could pay something like 1.5 times the normal fee to cover employee overtime. Actually where I work, we have a rapid response fee. The fee is a great way to tell if the requested service is truly an emergency. It's amazing how many "emergencies" disappear when they hear about the fee.

I used to work in a photo lab where we offered both 1-hour and 3 day service. Customers would quite often ask for the 1-hour service until they found out how much it was versus the other option.

It is definitely taking longer right now.
I sent my 25 in for warranty work since one of the screws broke ( first 30 ), They offered a total spa treatment and tune up while it's there which I gladly accepted. Was under the impression that it'd be returned promptly but it's been around 7 weeks and I was told earlier this week that it'd be aporox another 2 weeks.

I would expect the slower turn around on a normal spa treatment but thought that warranty work would take a higher priority.
My only other experience with their timeliness was two years ago, I sent 3 knives in and it took over 2 months to get them back. They told me that the blade show had disrupted the normal process of things and waived all charges for my extended wait.
Although I would've liked to have it back by now I don't mind waiting, it gives my other knives a chance for some pocket time.

I'm hoping for my call this week also they got my large enigma on 8/9 so I expect it should be here soon. It's sad I sold everything else off. All I have left is my sebenza, a kershaw leek, and a leatherman wave.I sure will be happy to get my sebenza back looking like new.

Had I known their times had slowed (relative to 2010, my last experience), I wouldn't have sent in 3 at once. On the bright side, I'm getting in more quality time with my others. ;)

I would recommend a call to CRK before sending the knife. They are very up front about the delays. When I called about two weeks ago, the young lady who answered told me it would take 6-8 weeks.

Mines on the way home, just over 6 weeks for a reblade. I screwed up the original blade trying to rebevel on an extra coarse diamond stone while drunk. The original blade is still fine, but I must have sharpened half the life out of it. P.S. that new xcoarse diamond hone removes metal a lot faster than the Washita oil stone I am used to.

Just a service update...

I picked up my knife from UPS monday after work. Thing looks brand spanking new! Not as sharp as I like.... I can fix that if I like though :)

Thanks for the laugh man! That's pretty funny. Thanks for sharing

I found out that my first 25 will be mailed back today, I can't wait to see how it looks.
Now I have to decide wether I'm going to keep the one I bought while it was away as a back up, if they'll both be users, if ill keep one pristine, or if ill sell one of them.
Decisions, decisions ;D

I think it depends on what else you got on your want list....

Cause it's so hard not to use those bad boys!! They just work so good!

Right on!
Problem, if you can call it that, is that my edc rotation already consists of my trusty Tanto Umnum, Large 21 Insingo, and used to include the now mint 25. I also occasionally carry other CRK's and some other blades as well. The thing hat I need to decide is wether or not I should keep using the 25's ( one or both ? ) or let them go to recoups some funds for other purchases- you guys know how it is.
I have a measly 12 CRK's and I'm thinking that its time to part with some duplicates to get some new blood in the collection, maybe ill just keep them all and pinch pennies to get the next one ;D
Again, you all know how it is.

I wouldn't call nearly $5k in CRK's "measly". ;)

Yeah I agree!!

My personal input is.... I would sell and get some new blood in there!! Unless you planning on keeping one mint for 10 years.

That's at least what I've been doing selling what I'm not going to carry. But that's just the kind of knife collector I am. Not using it, it's gone.

Unless it has some special meaning of course.

Good luck with your inner battle of the blades!!

Im in a similar situation at the time, I didn't even noticed how many knives I had and I kept buying more, I will need to let some go pretty soon. I guess I'll start with the ones that don't get carry at all, it's kind of hard to justify that much money just sitting there..........aaaaaand now back to the FOR SALE forum

We must be related somehow ;)

Problem is that everytime I decide to sell I open a box to take pics and think to myself, wow, this knife is awesome! No way I can sell this one, so onto the next box and you guessed it, same thing. Doesn't matter that I open 3 boxes of Umnumzaan's in a row, I just end up staring at all of them trying to figure out which variation I like least and end up putting one in my pocket and the others back in their boxes- I'm hopeless!

I should've started with hi, my name is Rich and I'm a knife addict, but if you've read this much you completely understand.

Thanks for the compliments guys, I truly appreciate your enabling ;D
