Severed a tendon in my hand last night.

I am sorry for your injury, Nathan..
Good luck to you on surgery, and keep us posted.
David

Just got out of surgery, turns out I had 2 severed tendons not just 1 (thank God I opted for the plastic/orthopedic surgeon instead of just letting the ER doc fix me up like he wanted to).

I'll be in a splint for six weeks - thank God that I paid into my disability coverage as well! And out of it just in time for my wedding at the start of April. I'm going back for follow-up & physio scheduling on Monday morning, so far so good.

Thanks again everyone,

Nathan

Im glad to hear your going to be OK but sad to hear you'll be down a few months.Been there,it sucks. In the meantime, throw away that buffer and use cork belts loaded with rouge on your grinder. It works fantastic and isnt nearly as dangerous.

The key to having a good outcome with an injury like this is the rehab. Your don't want to work the extensors much at first, but want to keep the tendons gliding. To this end you need to find a good therapist who can make a splint with rubber bands to take the work off the extensors (hard to describe, but a T-piece over the dorsum of the wrist with bands going down to the fingers.) Don't push it, go slow. Pain here is not a good thing- you don't want to stretch things out. You do however, want to be able to close the fist entirely- so work the passive range of motion and the flexors. All the best... Find a good physical therapist. These injuries can be serious for folks that work with their hands. You did the right thing by refusing to have the ER doc perform a tendon repair...

Glad your surgery went well. Sounds like things could be much worse....with that said, I'm sure it's very painful and recovery won't be much fun either. Prayers from Texas.
