Although I am still on KC's pre-order list receiving their boiler-lated "hang in there" email on a weekly basis, I am not holding my breath for an actual fulfillment unless there will be much more from Spyderco down the road if/when management decides that this one is a definite winner with very high demand where they can easily offer more in different color handles scales without affecting their definition of a "sprint" run.
So, to pacify my own curiosity and butt-hurtness, I went ahead and actually found an NIB CF/S90V version from National Knives LLC (
Forum supporting dealer and a GREAT vendor, IMHO). This is one solid and serious hunk of blade knife!!! I used to be a Shiro guy and for lack of a better word, I used to find many of my own Spydies a bit "dainty" for lack of a better word as compared to my Shiros, but not this one, no Sir!
As a past owner of both Manix & Manix XL, I was not wowed by the Manix (
a few years back in their basic S30V format) parer and was not a big fan of the leaf-shaped blade either but if it ever was going to grow on me, it'd be in form of a Shaman! The handles fit me just fine because I do not have the largest or the smallest hands (
sz L gloves) but I can also see the faint complaints about the handle grooves and the knife being a bit butt-heavy, none of which affect me.
Now having the CF/S90V version in my possession, I am not sure as to why I'd need a second Shaman so I can now rest easier without chasing this current craziness! Yup, the CF handle scales are a bit too slick for my liking as I would prefer the tackiness of micarta but I can live with CF as it is indeed slick in the other definition of the word. If I do end up getting the Cru-Carta, I may pass that one along to a Forum buddy who has also missed out and can not be bothered with the current silly state of the chase , we shall see
