Shaman sprint run?

Brummie Brummie

I just looked and the Military and Shaman have the same Blade thickness of 0.145”. So I would also assume the standoffs are the same thickness too. I’m sure they use the same bronze washers across the entire line of knives.

They seem to work fine. I'm sure that theoretically, the backspacer makes the knife a little stronger, but I can't see it making any difference in real world use. With the standoffs in, the blade is a tiny bit off-center, but you'd have to be real OCD to notice it, and it's no worse than some other spydercos I've had new. I don't know if it was originally the same with the backspacer in - I didn't check.

Yes, as mentioned in my earlier post. It's an original Manix with (obviously) customized handles. The blade stock on the newer Manixes is much slimmer.

My bad. I also tend to build things without reading the directions first :)

I'm not sure how yours arrived. But my cruwear came far sharper than my S30V did . Finer edge as well. A few strokes on the strop and it can just about split hairs.

No complaints at all about the blade -either the satin finish or the sharpness.

Although I am still on KC's pre-order list receiving their boiler-plated "hang in there" email on a weekly basis, I am not holding my breath for an actual fulfillment unless there will be much more from Spyderco down the road if/when management decides that this one is a definite winner with very high demand where they can easily offer more in different color handles scales without affecting their definition of a "sprint" run.

So, to pacify my own curiosity and butt-hurtness, I went ahead and actually found an NIB CF/S90V version from National Knives LLC (Forum supporting dealer and a GREAT vendor, IMHO). This is one solid and serious hunk of blade knife!!! I used to be a Shiro guy and for lack of a better word, I used to find many of my own Spydies a bit "dainty" for lack of a better word as compared to my Shiros, but not this one, no Sir!

As a past owner of both Manix & Manix XL, I was not wowed by the Manix (a few years back in their basic S30V format) parer and was not a big fan of the leaf-shaped blade either but if it ever was going to grow on me, it'd be in form of a Shaman! The handles fit me just fine because I do not have the largest or the smallest hands (sz L gloves) but I can also see the faint complaints about the handle grooves and the knife being a bit butt-heavy, none of which affect me.

Now having the CF/S90V version in my possession, I am not sure as to why I'd need a second Shaman so I can now rest easier without chasing this current craziness! Yup, the CF handle scales are a bit too slick for my liking as I would prefer the tackiness of micarta but I can live with CF as it is indeed slick in the other definition of the word. If I do end up getting the Cru-Carta, I may pass that one along to a Forum buddy who has also missed out and can not be bothered with the current silly state of the chase , we shall see :)

What is with the delay in getting these to dealers? Does the Premier Program stipulate that participants get their small initial shipments for some specified amount of time before the bulk shipment goes out? I ASSume there was only one production run, so are the remainder just being arbitrarily held at Spyderco?

You're a good man, Mat. I don't care what @Nathan the Machinist says. ;):p:D:)

Hard to believe the Millie and the Shaman share the same blade thickness. Both great but very different blades, and specs don’t tell the whole story of course.

I don’t usually use a choil grip, but the Shaman is made for it. I struggle a little feeling like I have a really secure grip with that tapered butt.

Just saw someone with a Cruwear/Micarta post on Reddit he's looking to only trade for a St. Nicks Shaman. Just a heads up for anyone wanting to make that trade.......

Did you measure them to be of the same stock thickness or just by eyeballing 'em? I would've never guessed it!

I already have the CF/S90v Shaman also and absolutely love it myself. Put a deep carry Para3 clip on it and your in business with perfect pocket carry! On that like Casinostocks Casinostocks said, the CF is a tad too slick, feel like I’m going to drop it sometimes so I don’t carry it as much as I would like.

I also got in on the KC preorder but they said I’m about 1.5 hours in on the 2 hour window they had open. So I’m not holding my breath either. Since the MAP was $320 I went ahead and grabbed one from a reputable dealer and paid full price.
(EDIT: Was able to grab one at a Mom & Pop Store for the regular price of $208)
I really wanted this Shaman CruCarta for a daily carry so I didn’t mind paying the MAP unlike the CF/S90v. Also don’t mind since I’m supporting U.S.A made and a smaller U.S. dealer

So I’m looking forward to mine getting here on Monday :D

If by some chance I do get the one from KC, I will gladly keep if I can’t make my money back :)

MXG clip for Shaman, already done & done :)

BTW, my preorder with KC was placed on 9/24 when it was open but I don't know as to how long that window was and where I fall within. I'll just keep it open without holding my breath ;)

I was looking at that exact clip for my CF Shaman too! Was torn, but went with the one with the hole as I like how it matches the Spidie hole on the blade.
