I haven't seen one here, even with many hundreds of acres of undeveloped land right behind our house. They probably don't hang around humans unless there is a need.

I got a house out your way kinda...ive never seen a fox squirrel out there either..
only grey ones.

they interbreed though. their off spring looks like a grey, but with all black fur typically.

If so inclined and if interested - you may be able to call some in rather easily. I have found that being quiet is exceptionally helpful but near a nut tree of some kind - especially when acorns start falling - you rub the two reeded (ridged) edges of quarters (dimes are too small and the other coins aren't reeded - it is a by-product of anti-clipping of precious metal coinage, been used since coins fit into collars) together and it sounds a bit like them feeding. The others will want to see what is for dinner.

its due more to a different type of eco system. southern fox squirrels like pine forests, sandhills, and open areas from natural fires with some oaks and hardwoods for nesting. their food sources are pretty particular, so developed areas dont typically cater to them.

the area that sharpbits lives in is more what id call river basin with wetland hardwoods and limited pines. with some high and dry upland. where I live is more to the liking of fox squirrels due to the rural lifestyles around me. some property owners have turned their land into pastures and I have a swampy jungle hardwoods and some pine scrub. so its closer to what they like.

A "kettle" is a group Turkey Vultures - a term used since the 70's, coined by Donald Heintzelman in his book Hawks of New Jersey. It is difficult to photo, but this kettle must have had a good or so birds in flight (as I count 27 in the first pic and that was just a window on the spiraling display), with several roosted along the river edge. I was unable to find the nesting pair of Bald Eagles that are near by.
 
Smokey has not been eating the past couple days despite appearing interested in food. It’s weird. We’re at the vet now.

I hope poor kitty is gonna be okay..

I got to ask though...how'd ya get him there? cat case on bike, held under 1 arm while riding, sat on lap and across handle bars.....walked, Uber, got a ride with a friend? ya got me super curious on the logistics.
 
Friend works in town and dropped me off.

I have special food to offer him and medicine to jam down his throat including appetite stimulants. I don’t like forcing him but they said it’s necessary. If he doesn’t eat within another couple days then I have to spend a ton more than I already did on today’s visit and bloodwork on the x rays and next tests.

gotcha. i was kinda hoping for the sat on lap and across handlebars.......that would have been awesome.

hoping he does okay with meds and special food.
