Share your thoughts on proxy buying please.

My general thoughts are "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". As long as Proxy buying doesn't turn into knife flipping / scalping. This should be fun after all... Just my opinion.

I recently have tried a few times for a FK, and have come up empty. Funny, well not so funny, thing is a forum member recently offered to sell me one which I quickly agreed to. He sent it to me before Thanksgiving and it unfortunately arrived a little early as I was away from home for the weekend. Came back to find the package had grown legs. Hopefully whoever took the knife appreciates the craftmenship as much as the FK deserves. UPS seems to offer nothing but excuses for issues "during the Holidays." I don't see anything wrong with proxies as those kind individuals provide a valuable resource for those of us who aren't so fast with computers or lucky. Thanks!

Edited... Theorized a bit on why more NTM knives aren't sold, but then read his comments. Hopefully, he'll get his output sorted soon!

As for my take on proxy buying...

I think it's lame. I've never lost out on something to a proxy, but if I did, I'd be pissed. If you can't make a 12:00 show, bow out gracefully until you can. Bear in mind, I say this as a guy who is generally in the field and unable to connect to the internet, even by cellphone. It's the principle of the idea. Proxy buying is an inherently unfair practice that stacks the deck for older or more popular users versus newer users or those who prefer reading rather than posting a lot. Some may say that's how the world works, but as long as Bladeforums charges people to have a reasonably useful messaging system, which is essentially charging people to effectively use the sales forums, then I think there is an obligation to maintain a level playing field. Banning proxy buying would be a good idea.

It's been my general experience, and I say this only in regard to the actions in THIS subforum, that proxy buyers have for the most part purchased on proxy basis not for older or more popular users, but for recent, newer users. So at least when it comes to Nathan's subforum, I have no problem at all with proxy buying.
