Buck Vantage Ecolite used DMT stones and then paste to strop with.

I'm still having trouble getting that perfect mirror finish. It's almost there but with some very faint scratches left.

opinel nr8 carbon steel
dmt diafolds c/f xf/xxf then stropping with dmt diapaste 6, 3, 1 micron

all 3 opinels I have did not have an edge when I bought them (really!). The planes of both sides of the knife did not come together.
They can become wicked sharp tough and because of the thin profile are excellent slicers.

no beauty price for the edge, but it's not necessary to get it highly polished. Not bad for $8

after my trip to lapland and some heavy use, it was still pretty sharp, but I couldn't resist to go the extra step :thumbup:

from factory edge to dmt fine to xfine to xxfine, dmt diapaste 6, 3, 1 micron.

What has been your experience with the 1095 steel? I have an ESEE Izula II edc and will be getting an ESEE-6 plain edge for my backpacking/camping trips. Just curious where the 1095 ranks in your opinion and how well it holds an edge after different sharpening methods.

Sebenza 21 and my old victorinox conscription pocket knife, both with some beard hairs both have some pretty good carry hours
