Shave of the day?

Hi,

I like that brush handle Mark. Something about the clear Lucite I really like.

Thank you. I really dig the clear Lucite myself. Like you said, there's just "something" about it...

I am really happy to see you are enjoying the Arko Stick. :)

Hi,

Yep, I actually really like how the Arko makes my cabinet in the bath smell. You've turned me to the darkside.:D I'm looking to upgrade my VDH boar brush to an Omega Boar. How do you like your 47?

My shave today,

Gillette Slim, (Hey, it's the only DE I have!)
Crystal Blade
VDH Boar
Williams Mug Soap

I've not heard many flattering things about the Williams soap. But I found a puck at the grocery store and bought it 80 cents. It lathered OK and gave an adequate shave, but nothing to write home about.

Get a bottle of glycerin at the drugstore. A few drops added when making lather is a major improvement.

The Omega 11047 is a mixed boar/badger brush, and while I consider myself firmly a boar user, it is easily tied with my Semogue 620 for my favorite brush.

You should look into the Semogue boar brushes. Several (like my 620) have Lucite handles, firm lofts (perfect for face lathering), and can be had for under $25. Lee's Razors is a US distributor for the Portuguese company.

I'll post a pic of the Semogue 620 alongside the Omega 11047 in a little bit.

And here it is...

Don't toss out that old VDH brush, you could always do what I did with my Omega 005 and put a better knot in it if you like the handle but don't like the knot. It is best to have a second brush when you do a knot upgrade because there will be a couple of days you wont be able to use the re-knot while the epoxy cures

I assume from the inclusion of the flashlight that you shaved in the dark. How'd that go?

Fine looking Badger on show there.

Today and yesterday in the countryside, so i was able to use slightly different methods.

Sauna as prep, this open the pores like nothing else and softens two day stubble wonderfully, then

Omega Boar, these can whip up a thick lather in no time.

Taylor of Old Bond St. Almond cream, very soothing and pleasant marzipan smell. Rich lather in an old coffee cup that the previous owners left behind..

Merkur Traveller. Some say this small razor is just for emergency use. Don't be fooled, it's wonderfully agile, aggressive and works a treat. Packs away into a tiny leather sheath as well, most useful.

Bic blade. The odd thing about these is that the quality can be a bit variable and the 1st shave has to be approached with caution, has a tendency to nick. Shaves 2, 3 4 are excellent, 5 is alright but no more after that!

Ultra cold well-water.

Nivea after shave balm. Result a very close burn free, nick free shave. New skin feel!

Today? No shave. Tomorrow I might use my usual Bic single edge disposable, or I might skip it again. No fuss here.

For all these people that drop in and make light of traditional wet shaving, I suggest you try it at least once or go get a straight razor shave. I thought of shaving as a chore and didn't like it, but in the search to find something that didn't leave my face feeling like raw hamburger I was luck enough to stumble into this forum. I now find that a good shave it a pleasurable experience and look forward to each shave, I often compare to my shave time to a woman's bubble bath because I find it relaxing and very satisfying. If you try it you just may have a different outlook on the daily shave:thumbup:

This is a Wade and Butcher wedge that had moth eaten horn scales when I got it. The blade was in good shape so I bushed the blade pivot hole and re-scaled it in Ebony with a Brazilian Cherry wedge and CA finish.

Ok... but my DE shave costs about 1/10th of what your shave costs you. I save about $300 per year just by swithing to DE. And that is a real savings, $300 more in my pocket per year. That will pay for three nights in a hotel room near the Cobb Galeria Center in Atlanta and maybe even a few other expenses. Most guys don't stop to think a about the cost of shaving because it nickel-and-dimes you. But it adds up over the course of the year.

Oh, and my everyday DE shave is significantly better than anything I ever got with cartridges and cans.
