Shawnee National Forest Anniversary Hike (Extremely Photo Heavy)

Looks like it was an amazing trip! That reminds me a little bit of a place we have in Ohio called Hocking Hills, which is full of gorges, valleys and waterfalls. My fiancee and I are going there Wednesday. We'll have to take some pictures.
It was fun man. Please do take photos. We're always looking for new places to try out.

Wow Dubz. That place looks pretty cool. I'll have to go there someday. :D
Maybe you'll get the chance one day, haha. We didn't even make it to one horse gap. Time got away from us. We'll have to give it a go another day. We need to hit Bell Smith Springs again too. Only hiked that one small trail.

Happy Anniversary! awesome photos thanks for sharing!

How long do you figure it takes the Emberlit to cool after use?

Dubz each of your posts gets increasingly more outdoorsy. Here before long you are going to have a show on Discovery. ;)

Really beautiful scenery Dubz.

If I lived in southern Illinois, I'd be out in the woods every chance I got. I was telling Kathy that I'd be in great shape if I lived near the woods. We're hoping to move down there, one of these days.

Thanks man. Not sure how long it took to cool down. It wasn't long though.

I led a group of hikers from Germany in there once. We came in to Stoneface from the opposite direction and I let them think they "discovered" it. They named it "Rock Man" and were excited as hell. :D

Dubz, you were just a couple of miles from some REALLY amazing scenery that is off trail. We need to get in there one of these days man.

That would be cool. I met a group of college kids at Burden Falls. They were from Chicago, but went to school at SIU. One of them was telling me about a place, I think he called "Panther's Den", or something to that effect. He said to him it was the prettiest place he'd ever seen in southern Illinois. Ring any bells?

Sure does. It ain't too shabby either.

It's a nice place, but there are much better (IMO). Kay and I used to live two miles from here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdfBH0s_Jjw and you can hike for days in there. This guy has some great videos by the way.

That place is beautiful. That guy does have some good videos. I had his Stoneface, One Horse Gap, and Bell Smith Springs videos bookmarked, when I was looking for places to go down there.

Great TR Dubs, thanks for posting. That Stoneface pic is pretty sweet; looks like a fun hike. I LOVE the fact that you took like a half dozen stoves out for a day hike luncheon, sounds like something I'd do haha. The Emberlit stove in particular looks very interesting. I need to look into wood burning stove, they look fun to mess around with.

Great pics as always, and Happy Anniversary!

Thanks man, appreciate it. I love stoves and mess kits, haha. I really bought the Emberlit as more of a backup in all honesty. Much easier, less messy, and more convenient using the gas or alcohol stoves. But, wth, it was fun to use.

Will do. It'll be a cold one. High on Wednesday here is supposed to be 16* :)

Still, ought to be fun.

I hear ya. Nice weather is always a plus, but we never let it bother us. We always prepare for it.

Great pics as always Warrior. I was at Stoneface on Saturday doing some mountain biking on the Eagle Mountain portion, should have looked for you guys! If you have never been, I highly suggest checking out Little Grand Canyon and Panther's Den, both of which are in the Shawnee. They are IMO two of the coolest hikes offered. Happy anniversary as well!

They have recently doubled the amount of trails out there by Glendale. I was out there in the fall taking a friend mountain biking and didn't realize that they had added. We were lost for about 4 hours lol. I had a blast as I love being lost in the Shawnee. He, on the other hand, hasn't gone riding with me since...

Thanks man. We will check it out. Can't wait to get back down there. I love that area.
