Shipping before payment arrives

Yes. I do it for people I know.

But I don't tell them first. I let it be a surprise. ;)
That's neat!!:D

Thanks guys for all the responses.........send out a bunch of rep points:D

IMO,if the deal is with someone that has been on the forums a while the sell should be done just like a trade, ship the item and the M.O. at the same time. After all it is the same as a trade only you are tradeing a item for a M.O. instead of another item.

i too do it all the time, actually rarely even check TGB&U anymore, guess i should, but i have never had any problem whatsoever, nada, zip, none. how many times have i done it?? i would say certainly dozens, probably close to hundreds.

when i first started swapping stuff on this forum my wife could not believe no one got ripped off, we were both new to the PC then, she was just amazed, we'd heard so many bad ebay stories & other scams, she doesnt even think its a big deal anymore.

lotsa good folks in this neck of the woods imho.

A while back I bought a knife from someone on another forum who wanted a MO instead of Paypal, and he shipped the knife as soon as we had an agreement. I was pleasantly surprised, and since then I have done the same for folks. I've even offerred to send a knife in trade first, let the person look it over, and then either send my knife back or send me their knife in trade. No one's ever taken me up on that offer, but I think it sets their mind at ease. As u812 said, when we trade no one feels like they have to get the other person's knife first, and then send theirs. You could just as easily turn the question around and ask, "why should you send someone money before they send you the goods?". I suppose it's because we're all so accustomed to retail, and paying up front, sometimes long before we get what we're paying for. That doesn't have to apply here, and I'm glad that sometimes we're able to recognize that.

Its been done for me, I`ve done it for others

Its a great show of trust and respect.

No doubt there is going to be someone who betrays this trust,

Then its time to get midevil

But until then its great trading the "old way" :)

same for me...and I have to ship internationally...sometimes I've been bit. some old timers (ie. people with established reps) describe their knives less than accurately, like shaving sharp edge but the edge won't slice paper. well, I don't plan on having the lowest standard myself, but the highest. I've been helped by others before...so pay it forward.

As soon as someone emails me that they hav shipped payment, I ship the items. Sometimes I ship before the other person. I have sold many items and traded even more. There are a great group of people here. I have never had a problem. David

I'm the same way, I'll ship if we've done business before or if the person is fairly well known.

Not everyone is a thief, there are still some honest decent people out there.

Now if I can just find them.

I've done the same and don't hesitate to do so. Course I've also had payment for a week before shipping due to unforseen circumstances. Also had the item for a time before payment went out. Of course I've ALWAYS completed the deal! :D :D :D

David did this for me, it was very unexpected considering I'm not very well known and it was my first BF buy. Just wanted to say thanks again David!! :D

I have had many sellers ship me knives before they receive the payment. I would never tell them not to do this since I am as impatient as the next guy when it comes to getting new toys. I almost wish they wouldn't do it because the whole time that I'm waiting to hear from them that the payment has arrived I'm worrying that I put the wrong address on the envelope or some other crazy thing. After about 100 or so transactions that I've made nothing has gone wrong yet but Murphys law is bound to catch up with me sooner or later.

I totally agree. I am sitting here freaking out to find out whether the seller who has shipped the knife (it is always a pleasant surprise) has received payment. Sometimes, they are so busy that they forget to let me know if the payment arrived. Things happen and I value my reputation.

I've sold and traded alot and most of the time I ship the knife after the deal was made via e-mail. Everyone I've dealt with has been great. No complaints, no regrets.

I do it all the time.Got burned once in hundreds of trades/transactions.I'll never forget that little @$&%@!.tom.

but have not had too many opportunities to do it yet.

I am not a very trusting person by nature.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Sure, I do it all the time. I've never gotten burned. Every so often I'll get a feeling of caution and hold the knife until I receive payment, but so far my instincts have always proven correct.

This is a pretty amazing community - BFC in particular, and the knife community as a whole.

Ira, I do it all the time and have never been burnt.

Actually I did it today.

rmolk said he would send me a m.o. and I told him just to send me a personal check and I would get the knife (wood inlay Sebenza) out today.

I did check his posts before I did it though. ;)

Hello Rick:
I certainly do appreciate the trust, and I love the sebenza. It just arrived today, and if the son doesn't love it, it will go in my Left hand pocket. Gorgeous.
By the way, I did send you a USPS money order, because it is important to do what you say you're going to do, and that is what I always try to do. Part of deserving your trust is doing my best to earn and justify it.
Regards,
Rich

One guy I was dealing with had five knives I was interested in -- could only buy one. He sent them all to me and offered his FedEx number to ship the ones back I didn't buy. Seeing them all "live", I bought three!

Then again, its not like I haven't bought a few knives now and again.
