I dont know if any of you saw in the current issue of Tactical Knives, but there was a knife in there that seemed almost to good to be true. Take a look at www.shivakicustomknives.com. These knives are or I should say seem to be top of the line, no holds barred custom, but usable knives. Now, I must admit that the price tag on most of these knives are a little to high for me!!!! But nice to look at none the less.

Everything I've ever heard or read about Shiva Ki's knives has been outstanding. The praise these knives receive easily match the claims of their 'magic'. If I could afford one, I'd own one. The only problem I see with them is the fact that the Spirit Blade knives are almost too pretty to use. But, I'd force myself to use it anyway!

Shiva Ki is a great guy, the "spirit" blade got my blood pumping as well and I hope to have one real soon! Give him a call and talk to him about the performance of his blades, incredible! Stevo

Has anyone ever handled one of his knives, particularly the one in the tactical knives issue that cut 15 manila ropes? Is it light and lively?

If it feels light and alive in the hand, I'd definitely consider it.

If it feels like a khukri...I may pass it up.

I just handled one of these knives yesterday! A very good friend of mine just bought one. It is one of the spirit blades with a cocobolo handle overlayed with blue rayskin and wrapped in black silk.

Here are my first impressions: Absolutely beautiful construction, excellent balance, HUGE knife (!) but, it handles like a smaller one because of the superb balance. The handle is a work of art - the wood is expertly finished and the rayskin and silk wrap is flawless. The blade is also breathtaking - it looks like a LOT of time was spent with this piece of steel! My friend said the maker had told him it had been folded many hundreds or maybe even thousands of times! (Yep, he bought it from him in person!) The best part about the knife was the edge... it was absolutely mirror polished, and it was SHAAAAAARP!!! I mean, it was the sharpest knife blade I have ever felt in person! When I tested it with my thumb, I could feel it start to bite... and then start to part skin! It would literally wipe the hair off my arm!

You can not go wrong with one of his knives. The one I handled was a thing of beauty. After I finished handling the blade my friend bought from Shiva Ki, I had to mop up my drool, dry off and have a cigarette! :D

One other thing I forgot to mention is that it was just a blast to handle! It just came alive in my hand. My friend and I were talking and I found myself pulling the knife out again and again because it just was a perfect match for my hand. Very ergonomic, light and quick in the hand... Oh yeah, I compared it to the biggest knife I have on hand (Busse Basic 9) and the 9 looked like a pocket knife next to it.

Antdog:

that's REALLY interesting!

How long was the blade, and how much did it cost your friend?

Also, how long was the wait before you friend received the knife?

And what type of steel was used for the blade?

And how "lively" was it compared to other knives you've handled of that size?

Let me know! I'm really curious about Shiva Ki's work.

4 Ranges, I'll answer what I can....

How long was the blade, and how much did it cost your friend?

I think it was a little over 10", maybe even 11" - it was huge! I think the blade was about 2 3/4" wide. I don't know exactly how much it cost, but I know it was at least $1000.

Also, how long was the wait before you friend received the knife?

He bought it from Shiva Ki in person. No wait.

And what type of steel was used for the blade?

I think it was called Samurai Steel. I don't know the exact composition, but it looked like damascus that had been worked a lot (it had a lot of lines in it).

And how "lively" was it compared to other knives you've handled of that size?

It was very lively! It feels like a knife with a much smaller blade because it is so well balanced. Most of the bowies I've handled in that range feel really blade heavy. This knife was not blade heavy like a chopper. If you want a BIG very well made fighter, you would be very happy with one.

While I was looking at the Shiva Ki knife, I got my Busse Basic 9 out and compared the feel of them. The 9 felt VERY blade heavy, almost like an axe. The Shiva Ki knife also made the 9 look small!

If I can get any more info on it from my friend, and possibly some pics, I'll post 'em.

I've got three Shiva Ki knives. They are all awesome in terms of feel and balance. They are very light in feel, even the big ones. While I don't carry them as primary blades, I am constantly handling them because they are sort of magical to work with. They are definately unique and sort of rustic in their finish, but this is really the draw to me. Many of today's "collectors" would never want one because they aren't pretty enough, but I really dig Shiva's work and truely appreciate the history of these old school beauties.

Gentelmen,
Thank you for your kind words. Has been some criticizm
of fit and finish. Any knife I make carries a lifetime a free cleanup and

Any nife i make carries a free clean-up and resharpen for life. A few of
the Spirit blades aren`t perfect in fit and finish. It will cost you only the price of one way UPS, and I will re-do it for free. Thats the beauty of a takedown

As to those of you who have handled one of my blades, there is nothing I need to say, you know.

Master Shiva Ki

Master Shiva Ki, welcome to the Bladeforums. I hope that you hang around and add your expertise to that of the other bladesmiths here. Your input on any subject would be welcome.

Antdog, thanks for the reply man!

Lively in the hand eh? That's just about the WORST news I could've heard. Now I'm gonna WANT one!!

All joking aside, I'm gonna seriously consider one now. Lively feel, plus excellent support.

Amen, Sir! Your blades are absolutely awesome! :D

4 Ranges - no problem bro! Glad to help. I was very impressed with Shiva Ki's knives, and I think you would be too. They are truly amazing - VERY lively in the hand, excellent balance, great construction, and customer service from the man himself. Can't beat that!

Mr. Hatfield,
You are one of those ancient warrior spirits of which I spoke, so I will say 13 for that next blade. That makes you up +5 on this
one, and +5 on the other two. I like that, makes me feel good. I`m sure
you feel likewise.
Thank You Sir
Master Shiva Ki

Welcome to the forums, Shiva Ki. I have one of your Spirit Blades and I am quite impressed with it, it is definitely the fastest knife of its size that I own, and the sharpest. Your work is outstanding and the design unique.
This one sees some use, I take it when hiking in bear country.

Master Shiva Ki,

Mr. Hatfield is my friend who bought the knives from you. I gave him your message and he was very happy!

Yesterday I was at Mr. Hatfield's house and saw the Merc he bought from you. It is awesome!!! I almost like it more than the spirit blade. That knife is SUPER SHARP! I wanted to see just how sharp it was, so I used it to push-cut straight through a paper cup on the table. It took no effort at all! The Merc was so sharp, I just laid it on the cup and it cut through it like it was butter!

Your knives are the sharpest I have ever seen. ever. They are so sharp that cutting stuff with them feels almost unbelievable. Absolutely NO resistance. I was also very impressed how the top edge was just as sharp as the bottom edge. The top edge would push-cut through that same cup with no effort. I was laughing like a kid in a candy store!

I enjoyed handling your knives very much. They really are amazing. Excellent work, sir!

Master Shiva Ki

Hey Master Ki,
I'm very interested in one of your spirit blades. Do you currently have a wait list or anything like that? Are deposits required for orders? Please let me know!

I have a Ranger Stealth kill enroute to me now. This will be my 5th Shiv Ki knife. I had to sell a small dagger to raise some money awhile ago, so it was nice to get a BIG dagger to replace it. I am glad to see that Master Shiva Ki is still around making his special knives available to those who appreciate this type of blade.
