Shot show 2011

I like both of these, but what's up with the grinds on them? Also, thickness. Anyone? Since they look like the Taiwan made choppers, I'm going to assume they're 1085. Maybe 'sideshowbob8' will come along and give some more info.

Agreed--I've never seen grinds like those.

The grass machete and the Warthog are both 1085. They said the grind on the warthog was incorrect and will more closely mirror the old warthog grind. On the grass machete it has that two step grind to keep the thickness up and get the edge thin.

The knife to check out is this blown up version of the usmc knife calledd the bog brother. 9" long blade with a huge serration on the back. There is also a sweet little field craft knife which is a remake of the navy mark I knife. Both the big brother and mark I come in leather and Keaton handles. Good stuff.

Jeez, fine, here.

These are some really nice looking guns. Great shapes to em, just really beautiful to look at. A lot of really nice hardware on em too.

Oh and there are ladies there too. Just in case you didn't notice.

i don't like my guns with too much plastic, you know?

thickness on the grass machete?

And the Heavy Duty Warthog (#1278) with 6.75-inch blade:

I have the older model and I really like it after cutting down the guards. Beat the snot out of it and it all it does is smile back at me. This one looks like it would do the same. Think I'll have to add it to the wish list.

The Grass machete grind is something I'd have to get used to before outright buying. Hopefully I can try one out sometime, see if I want one.

Why isnt the BK12 at SHOT? I know the 100 BK12's from knifeworks havent shipped yet, but you'd think they'd have at least one prototype at the booth.

i'm thinking if KaBar were to sponsor a pass-around, which is to say, the complete line of Zombie Gear, JABs, and the grass machete and warthog, pay for the shipping for each person on the passaround (or give everyone one blade of choice), we could then all find out.

why sponsor? well, it's not very practical for folx to spend $15-25 on shipping per person to get a look at them otherwise. plus they get pictures, reviews and publicity that much faster. just a thought :)

i'm sure a few people will pick these guys up anyway, but word of mouth is a fickle thing.

that's a very good question!

i'm sure they have prototypes. unclear why they are not showing them.

clues?

Could be because they aren't from Kabar. But if Doug Ritter is there, I can't imagine that he doesn't have one with him. So much mystery surrounding this knife, makes the wait even tougher!

Ritter was asked in another thread (the sheath) when we'd see the real deal and get more info and he wrote:

At SHOT Show (fingers crossed)

Maybe its hidden underneath all the ZK boxes and everybody forgot about it? Dont know...Your guess is as good as mine.

perhaps someone bought all his samples? :D :D :D

if they were to ship out on monday, they might just make it to my door step before end of month. not sure that's going to happen though.

maybe February. they better come with some V-day candy ;)

still, it will be fun to have a Rowen made Becker/Ritter collab for the collection.

be even more fun if Rowen made a few more items that way for the Becker man. perhaps like the Patrol Khukri :> Reinhardt II or something... mmm! something big and tasty.

That's probably the reason. I'm sure Ritter and/or Rowan had at least a couple floating around though.

That 14" machete looks interesting, it might be my kabar kukri's backup one of these days.

I just got a phone call. You are correct. Perhaps we'll get something tomorrow.

Moose

ETA, just got off the phone with Ethan, he was gettin' his party on with Jeff, Mike, Tony, The Rowens, and Adam with E2E was there, he's going to do an interview with Ethan, and the Redneck Action Figure about the ESKabar. Should be a great vid, no doubt. Heard about some of the new Kabar knives, and we will have some pics coming soon, not sure if they will be up before SHOT is over, but we'll see. All in all sounds like a good time, Ethan said the show was SLAMMED all day today, and there will be more info coming, I'm sure.

Collab.

What? Did he say collab? With who? What are they making? Who's it with? Hush Hush, its a SECRET.

Moose

Ethan is a Hoot & it was Great talking to ya .... :D
This pic is for you moose,Ethan called you & then handed me the phone so we could talk ;)

Guys, Ken Lunde took these pics for us.

These knives look pretty good. I like the machete better than the Wart Hog, I think.

He also grabbed the 2011 Ka-Bar catalog for me and will be sending it along.

Ka-Bar's new Grass Machete (#1279) with a 14-inch blade:
