SHOT Show Highlights

CQC-9K has a sneaky-beaky wave.

Hahahah sneaky beaky, that's great. I really like that the wave feature is hidden in the open position. I think that's really cool. I just wish that was a titanium frame lock with like an S30V blade and made stateside... but I'm pretty sure it isn't :(

That would be an amazing knife, but I think at that point, it'd be serious competition for actual Emersons, especially since it'd also undoubtedly be cheaper.

Hit the nail on the head. I'm a little bit surprised Emerson was okay with the Launch 5 to be honest. I figure retail will probably be somewhere between $110 and $120 and it looks like one heck of a knife for that price.

Agreed. I can tell you that I'll be getting one. In fact, as I've said in the ZT thread, there are multiple ZT and KAI knives I am going to have to get. Some of them are just so silly, I won't be able to help it. Like, the Barge, I think it's called? Knife that has a pry-bar on the end? GENIUS. Cracked me right up when I watched LateBoyScout's vid.

Any idea what the street price will be on the new Condor 'Hawks? I like the look... but the MSRP is a bit higher than I was anticipating, at least in comparison to the Cold Steel offerings. The upside is that they come with a sheath, and I much prefer condor as a company, but I'm just curious what type of price bracket they'll land in.

Expect in the $60's.

Thanks Ben!

I saw the msrp, I just wasn't sure what that translates to street value for condor, having never really looked at their msrp in the past. Now I know.

Several buddies of mine went this year and I've been following their Instagram feeds voraciously to see what else is new.

It's probably slightly better than 3cr13 on paper. Probably a negligible difference.

Ive heard before that 3cr14mov isnt as good as 8cr13mov for edge stability or corrosion or something. Can spmeone confirm this?

Yes.

3Cr14Mov is not good. I have one knife in it (Spyderco Bug, the little tiny keychain one). It gets sharp fine, but can't hold an edge for anything. It doesn't appear to have any problem with corrosion. It is considered a very low end stainless steel by most.

8Cr14Mov is just fine though. Its apparently essentially AUS8 (iirc, I may be wrong on this one), but from China. So most would consider this a perfectly serviceable blade steel.

I couldn't agree more and as far as value automatic knives go they have the market there is no real competition for them. I've had a Launch 1 for a few months and it's my favorite auto I'm loving the launch 5.

Agree as well, I own a couple and they are made as well as any of my other autos that cost more etc. Just wonder how long they will make the series.

That MSRP does seem a bit high. I figured they would be in the same range as the CRKT Woods Hawks line(http://www.crkt.com/outdoortomahawks) which these look designed to compete with, but those have an MSRP of $70 and retail for around $45.

Anyone else think Kershaw is overdoing it? They should update and improve their existing line rather than introduce so many new models. I'd like to see a Skyline 2 or a Blur 2. So many of their new knives are similar to existing models, like the Amplitude and the Pico, the Entropy and Injection, Rove and Link.... ect. With so many short lived designs they aren't going to have a new legacy model. Spyderco is known for the Delica/Endura. Benchmade has the Griptilian. Kerhsaw has... the Leek I guess. They should perfect their in-house designs rather than start from scratch every year with new collaborations.

Hopefully someone filmed over at the Protech booth. They appear to have some new Strider SnG Collaborations that I could only make out from a distance.. :(
