Shotgunner kills a snake with AH-1

Having tons of snakes here in NorCal I've always wanted to kill and cook one up. But with Rattlers I've never been quite sure on where they store the poison, if it's up in the head easy to discard or a little further down. Anyone around here know the answer on that one??? Jeff???

The venom is stored in sacks just behind the fangs. Cut off the head and eat the rest.

Don't get the two (head and body) confused.:D

It was probably a 4 foot smoked sausage he was cooking for lunch and he fell asleep, forgetting all about it, woke up and went apey on it. :D

knowing the campgrounds they are at...and how close they are to the water...i would guess some type of water snake....but there are rattlers in that area too.....

That's funny, cus that's also where I store my venom.
In my sack.

HaHaHaHa

I believe it was one of those deadly (smelling) non-venomous watersnakes :) . It didn't smell too appetizing when he was cooking it, and and watching him eat it looked like he was chewing rubber bands, but I've got to give him credit, he did make the effort to cook it and eat it.

I could not believe how long the snake could still keep wiggling, even with its head chopped off and the skin peeled off! Mrs. S wasn't too excited about having it try to curl towards her while she was trying to take a picture of him with it :) .

spearhead is my guess, I just use a piece of knapped glass or a Y-branch to pin it and then chop the head. A necker style spearpoint knife in 1055 steel would make a slick piece of kit, I have an AG Russel Sting that could do the job I suppose but one with a thinner skeletonized handle would be ideal-just use your SAK saw or folding saw to cut a quarter of an inch about three inches deep across the top of a hardwood branch and lash with wet 550 chord.

Yea..... I was going for fish and frogs but beggars can't be choosers sooooo....

Not going to lie and say it was much on taste or consistency but it was edible.

If you look really close at the pics, you might just see a 10" bladed surprise!

I don't know what you're talking about.

I caught that Junglas in the pic right away, and putting it to good use! Nice catch with the AH-1. Katie looked like she was getting as far away as she could from it while chopping it up. Nice kill bro!!!

Or was it cricketdave who was holding when you were taking the picture? I distinctly remember your reaction whenever the snake would wiggle again :D

I think it was trying to swim away without its head or skin when Mr. S was rinsing it off!
