You probably would have gotten better flavor if you'd soaked it overnight in salted water and rinsed it a couple times in clean water.

It helps take some of the "snake" out of the flavor. Fry it up like catfish if you have the chance!

i have only had rattlesnake and we soaked in buttermilk for a couple of hrs and then fried em up.....but i bet it you would have wrapped it in bacon you would have been set......

The taste was acceptable, the consistency was the killer. It was like rubber. I spit the first bite out instantly but then the aftertaste wasn't too bad and I went back at it.

My favorite food in the world is sushi so I have a pretty accepting pallete but that snake was tougher than raw octopus. It won't be on the menu again unless dire conditions force it's return.:D

Or was it cricketdave who was holding when you were taking the picture? I distinctly remember your reaction whenever the snake would wiggle again :D

I think it was trying to swim away without its head or skin when Mr. S was rinsing it off!

Ok. I was taking the pics and dave says "oh look at the tail," as i was kneeling next to it. The creeper was wiggling right towards my feet. :barf::( I just don't like snakes!

Understandable reaction! I don't like 'em when they're moving either, but I wear 'em on my feet and have had an elaborate 7-course Chinese meal where every dish had snake in it!

You didn't see *me* jumping and volunteering to hold it, did you? :) I have this basic rule, that animals with their heads cut off should *act* dead. Besides, I think snakes stink :D .

They do tend to wiggle like crazy after they've been killed. I don't know how many snakes I've killed with a sharp stick, and to be honest the consistancy isn't that bad. I don't mind it at all, probably just how the snake was cooked.

The only Snake I have eaten, was prepared as sausage, and it was tasty.

I have killed a couple of rattle snakes in my time. The most recent was about 6 or so years ago. In a relative's front yard in Utah. I almost stepped on it in my flip flops. It was a baby rattler, and the sucker almost got my ankle. It was about 10 feet away from a group of toddlers in the front yard.

I guess a neighbor kid took one to his mom earlier in the week and said.....look at my baby snake, and she got bit on the hand and had to go to the er.

baby rattlers are real killers, as they are born they can be so small they look like worms. There are stories of fishermen finding them and hooking them as bait, catching a bunch of fish and then dieing on the spot.

Nice shot, and shots!

The only times I've eaten snake it as just small pieces roasted over coals and open flames, I thought it was pretty good, but then I also like alligator tail, frog legs, and turtle...They all taste very similar to me.

Nice Kill Shotty!

I never ate snake.I had eel.I'd think they'd be similar,but really don't know.

My dad use to fried rattle snake for us when I was a kid. All I ever tasted was the batter though. Never seemed to be much meat after he was done cooking:)
