Looks like a Rat snake oddly enough, but I dont know Texas snakes so I very well could be wrong. (it happens occasionally!)
Rat snakes are medium/large as far as North American snakes go.
Non-venomous but they can make you hurt yourself!

Nice kill!I killed one once at 29 palms.I was sleeping under the ammo truck,on a blistering day,Only to wake up next to a 5' Rattler. We both exited out of opposite sides.I caught up with him and took his head with an axe.Me and some of my fellow Jarheads skinned it and fried it up.The snake did'nt really taste so great because we probably did'nt prepare it right. It was pretty cool though!

Looks like a Grey Rat snake to me also. Definitely a non venomous species. Prep is everything for taste, edible is a whole other critter when it's SURVIVAL.

Venomous or not venomous I treat ALL snakes as venomous. Just like I treat a firearm, it is always loaded whether it actually is or not. :D

yep it was a rat snake, and in defense of my cooking i really didnt pack all my stuff for preparing snake, just had to cook it on the fly. i told him i'd fry him some grass hoppers next time.

This is true, I've probably eaten a dozen snakes over the last few years ranging from grass snakes to water moccassins to western daimondbacks, and I think only two of those occasions were for a daily meal. All the others I hadn't eaten for at least 48 hours prior... after not eating for a few days, any meat is a prime rib :D

I knew that was a Jungie! I was like wait...whats Mrs S holding....wait a minute....DANG IT!!!!! Hahahhahaa!

Last pic was funny, your face is like ehhhh it could taste better!

:p I got to do the honors of chopping it in half.

My 5's just came in the mail :( I want my Junglas so bad now :( this stinks. I'm ganna be grumpy the whole week in anticipation lol.

Did you eat any of it? How was its texture? I've always been curious how it would taste fresh caught dispatched and cooked :(

Lucky...

Do you guys have anymore pics of the snake? Beautiful creature!

cool pics...
and that snake looks tasty... :D

this thread looks like an episode of Man vs Wild :D :D :D

"Out Hairrr in the wiold, cutting a snakes head off or piercing, can mean the difference between liffe, and death" Bear Grylls accent is awesome lol.

I wish he'd use an Esee for ONE ep. Jeff told me he'd send Myke some Esee knives to play with, I wonder if its to far a stretch for you tube videos to be made for that :D ?

That would be awesome hahaha.

Bear Grylls, Myke Hawke, etc all using esee knives and reviewing them ;)

I'm pretty sure their directors are shelled insane amounts of money to show these guys using their brand's knife in these episodes. Discovery channel is just one big advertisement nowadays, I don't take stock in it anymore.

Say by, for example, putting a spear through it's head? That WAS a good stab, Mike

Thanks man, I missed about 8 times before getting it.

I cought it with the stab then smacked it in the head to dispatch it.

I chucked the skin as I really didn't feel like tanning it. PITA with the soak and all.

And no, Rod, Dave and Kate all passed on it.

Here I am, feeling like a good provider and they dissed my bounty.
