Should I get a Paramilitary 2?

No issues with chipping here.

Actually, my issue was with the edge rolling. The factory edge on mine was a bit aggressive as far as the angle is concerned. I put a micro bevel on it, and don't have anymore issues.

You will love it!
I have digi camo satin and black, 110v and the orange sprint with black blade....coming tomorrow.....you can't have just one!!! Especially when you have sons that love them too!
All around excellent knife! I never had an issue with s30v chipping.......but I don't break up sidewalks with my knives!
Good luck!
Joe

Get it, everyone should own at least one PM2. I have a black on black PM2 and a digicam/satin Millie, both in S30V, and and I haven't seen any chips so far. The edge will roll rather than chip. I've accidently managed to drop my PM2 on tile tip-down and it only rolled the edge by the tip slightly, was able to fix it on the Sharpmaker quite easily. Now if I can find some orange scales for either one...

Same happened to me - it fell edge-first on ceramic tiles, but this only rolled the edge a bit. Even I could easily fix that on Sharpmaker.

I just got my first spyderco a pm2 in s110v. It's an awesome knife and holds an edge forever..even when cutting tons of cardboard. It's allot smoother than the regular pm2s I looked at, it swings freely, solid lock up without any play, blade is centered, and the lock isn't sticky at all. I'm already planning on another...Smokey mountain knife works had several of the s110v in stock a few days ago when I stopped in.

Interesting. I have done that twice with my pm2 in 204p and it has taken out large quarter moon chips both times. Not exactly scientific test results but worth mentioning.

I don't own one but it's hard to see how you could go wrong with one of the most popular knives out there. You shouldn't have a problem with the S30V on wood, especially after you have sharpened it a time or two and gotten rid of the factory edge.

I think if I was going to get a new Para2 I'd get the new s110V version. Definitely a upgrade over S30V.

Especially keep an eye on the exchange, the s110v model come up almost daily it seem, ranging from $115-175. .they're in stock several places online as well, thou you'll pay close to $200 from a retailer.

Must be the different steel type, I guess. Overall I'm impressed with Spyderco's S30V. I suspect that if I dropped a ZDP-189 blade like that, it would've probably shattered right there. It's not much of a comparison, but so my experience with premium steels is limited to S30V, ZDP-189 and ELMAX.

I don't think that you can be a respectable member of Blade Forums if you've never owned one, even if it's just to try.....can you???

I'm old and not even a serous knife guy and I have one. No regrets at all. It goes with me on my daily walk in the woods.

S30V is good and will serve you well.

Versions with S110V and M4 are coming out now and thru the first of the year. They'll be about $40 more. Whether the slightly better steel is worth it is really up to you.

There's no 'wrong' choice here. Any version of the PM2 will serve you well.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I was going to pick one up but I might have to wait since the Australian dollar dropped quite a bit.
Im also a bit apprehensive about ordering a folder from the USA as customs can be pretty strict with what you can bring in.

That sucks. When I dropped mine, I thought that it will chip like nuts because of all posts saying that S30V is prone to chipping.
The rolled area was not small. I'd say about 5mm (0.2"). It's all good now and I've seen no chipping so far.

I haven't experienced any chipping with s30v with regular use either. The only time I've chipped mine was from accidental contact with a rock and a nail embedded in a piece of wood, but the chips were fairly small and sharpened out easily. This wasn't with a spyderco thou.

I'd definitely prefer s110v over s30v thou, it holds its fine edge much longer and once it does start losing it, it strops back pretty easy.

No don't get one, they're all mine!
Joking aside, totally get one, especially if you can get new s110 steel. One of the best little folders I've ever used. And super fun to open and close.
