Should we combine the Dealer & Individual for sale forums?

When you can sell nearly fifty knives in the Customs FS by individuals sub-forum just by saying it's from your "personal collection", you are not considered a dealer.

When you can start a FS thread here on BFC on average more than once a week since you joined, you are not considered a dealer.

And when all but a very small...actually, let's call it "miniscule" :foot:... handful of your hundreds of posts are in a FS thread, and you have started approximately 150 such FS threads, you are not a dealer.

I think the forum should remain the way that it is, but frankly, I find the lines distinguishing some sellers from some dealers to be completely invisible if not just non-existent.

Which brings up another good point: if all of your posting is in the For Sale area, and you've started 100+ threads, are you a dealer?

Do we need another membership level called "High Volume seller"

"Platinum Member Plus"? :) I do think that another level might be a good idea...something between Platinum and Dealer for us non-knifemakers.

Not a bad idea.

Or limit the number of open threads they can have / items for sale at any given time.

Gold = 3
Plat = 10
Dealer = unlimited

yes and that would be fair to the dealers that pay for there membership fees. if you are posting that many Items for sale then you are a dealer. eather pay up or go somewhere because you are cheating spark and that is not right.

Flipping to buy different knives or purging your collection for cash is one thing. Skirting the intent of the rule by using the letter of the rule makes you a crook in my book! I'd define terms (# of open posts etc.) then fire for effect. This isn't a retail or auction site you shouldn't have to administer it like one. Get enough back from the high volume sellers to cover their part of the overhead or run them off and make them someone else problem.

I think that is an excellent idea. Best I've heard yet. Take that to the fearless leader & suggest it. Wait......... :)

If the vast majority of a member's posts are in his own for sale threads, then that member is a dealer.

"If it looks like a duck and acts like a duck, I call it a duck. You could call it a rose but it still quacks."

I also see that separate would be best all around.

It seems that some people are dodging paying the dealer membership as well. I've seen some folks that have over 150 posts with nothing but "For Sale" stuff, 5-15 of the exact same knife, and they remain Gold...Not cool.

Maybe another level would be good, "Private Dealer" - This could be defined as someone that buys knives from various dealers and resells. Not simply a store owner or a production knife company employee, rather someone that wants to sell high volume, but has no brick and mortar store.

3, 10, unlimited??? Why should anyone, dealer or individual need more than one thread per sub forum. Fine have a thread in individual and custom, but not more than one in each.

If your thread is getting too unwieldy, lock it and start another, but lock the first before starting the second.

Dealers have their own dedicated forum, you can afford more then ten threads.

I think it is a bit confining to say have everything locked into one sales thread. I may want to sell something rare and unique, and not care if it doesn't move right away. On the other hand I might also have something I want to move now, so I give it it's own thread.

I always considered those people who turn a high volume of knives for profit to be dealers anyways. If it wouldn't have a large negative impact on the forum financially, then I would love to see a banning of those dealers who have been selling here without the appropriate membership level. Anyone who plays games to get around paying the dealer fee isn't someone I would ever trust enough to purchase a knife from or send my money to.

So in your mind what is high volume? Without specific limits (an EXACT number), no one could say for sure what high volume is. I think that is what Spark is trying to do - define things better.

Getting tangled up in specifics would be the worst way to go about this. Handling these on a case by case basis as people bring notice would be better.

I use to sell at the flemarket. I became disabled so I can’t do that anymore. I am selling off my old stock then calling it quits. I have a resale’s tax number so I still am a dealer and that is why I am not selling on this site. I sell on other sites and pay there fee. Any one that has a gold member ship and try’s to sell a bunch of knifes all of the time is a dealer and should be treated as such. Now I have some of the knifes that I bought for my self when I was going good but I am force to sell them now but I am still a dealer so I can not in good faith sell the here on this site because I think it would be wrong to do that. The only reason I became a gold member is because of you guys and girls. There is a lot of good people here that just try to help you out and ask nothing in return and that is why I found the money for a gold member ship to pay my way for the use of this site to be with you people and this is the only site that I am willing to do that for.

There's the bottom line. And a class act.

How about moving the Busse and Buck exchanges to the Exchange page. (More traffic there for the dealer threads to gain exposure)

Bump the WTB/WTT threads to the bottom.

Insert Busse and Buck FS by individuals in the FS by Individuals area.

Restrict everyone with a Dealer Membership to the Dealer threads.

In fact, if all dealers were to post where the BF rules state, more people will read those threads and more sales will be made by all who are restricted to that area.
The one member who has been spoken about throughout this thread has many knives for sale besides Busses. (See JD site for the looooooooong page of misc knives) His multiple threads alone would be a huge draw to the Dealers area.

Why start new membership levels when a little rearranging can be done?

so what is going to happen please?? are we going to combine the sales forms or not????

I'm still formulating a response. Right now, I'm tempted to get draconian on people and enact rules similar to the exchange area of ARFCOM.

COMPANIES & DEALERS: You must pay a fee to advertise in the Equipment Exchange. Please send an e-mail to advertise@ar15.com if you are interested in selling here.

The following rules are intended for the regular & Team Members of AR15.com only. Dealers/Industry Partners are subject to a different set of rules.

Welching

Sellers –– Be 100% sure that you want to sell the item and are satisfied with the selling price. If you back out of a deal AFTER you've agreed to sell it to a particular buyer, your account MAY BE LOCKED!

Buyers –– Be 100% sure that you can financially afford to purchase an item before offering to do so. If you back out of a deal AFTER you've agreed to buy from a particular seller, your account MAY BE LOCKED!

Equipment Exchange Rules

1. No more than TWO ads on page 1, and no more than FOUR ads within the first two pages.

2. No bold commands allowed in subject lines unless you're a paying Dealer/Industry Partner.

3. All ads should be placed in ONE appropriate forum. NO CROSS POSTING OF ADS IN MULTIPLE FORUMS.

4. All items MUST be priced!

5. You MUST have valid contact information to sell on AR15.com, and provide it to EE Staff on request.

6. You MUST have both your IM and e-mail turned on to sell here.

7. No auctions (or links to auction sites), unless specifically authorized by AR15.com. Accepting higher than stated prices for an item is considered 'taking bids' and is not allowed. If receiving a higher than advertised price is important to you, list your item on an auction site. Moreover, "Or Best Offer" is understood on the EE to mean best offer up to the listing price, not best offer above the listing price.

8. No links to other commercial sites except by AR15.com Dealers and Industry Partners.

9. WTB/WTT ads MUST be placed in the appropriate WTB/WTT forums ONLY. Posting them in the WTS forums may result in them being deleted instead of being moved. The ONLY exception is the NFA Firearms & Parts forum.

10. If you post more than EIGHT ads a month, think about becoming a team member and help support this site. This rule does not pertain to Dealers/Industry Partners.

11. Absolutely no stomping on other peoples' posts! Do not remark in any way that would negatively impact the sale of someone’s merchandise. This can result in your account being locked.

12. No posting of anything illegal. Including trademark infringements, such at knock-offs and clones that bear the trademark of the original company.

13. Once your item is sold or traded, do NOT delete the original title, ad text, or asking price. Leaving the ad in place after a sale is protection for both the buyer and seller, and also acts as a price reference for others. Disregarding this rule may result in a suspension of your account. Edit the title and text of the ad to mark it "SOLD" or "TRADED". Do NOT post a new reply!

Rules #14-17 are specific to "BTT”, or bumping ads to the top of page 1:

14. Keep in mind Rule #1 above.

15. The seller CANNOT reply to their own ad within 72 hours of anyone's post (including their own) for any reason. The 72-hour countdown for the seller restarts with each new reply to the ad by ANYONE.

16. All changes/updates should be done with the edit feature to the original ad, not by adding another response.

17. Sellers –– If 72 hours have not passed since the last post by anyone, all questions should be addressed by IM, e-mail, or edit ONLY!

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

18. Buyers –– STOP the trivial 'mail sent' nonsense. Simply send the seller an e-mail and/or IM. Also, STOP bumping ads with "Hey, free bump for a nice rifle.", "Free bump for a nice guy", "Hey, great rifle. I wish I had the money", "Payment sent", etc. All small talk should be restricted to IM or e-mail. Do not post in an ad unless you are interested in the item(s) for sale. DO NOT POST OFFERS IN ADS-IM or email them only

19. Don’t use a secondary "shill" account to ask a phony question or post any other messages, thus BTTing your own ad. This will result in BOTH accounts being locked!

20. Sellers –– Don’t rewrite an ad again in order to get it back on page 1.

21. Sellers –– Do not post items for sale that you do not have in your possession. Also, do not list items for sale unless you are 100% positive that you wish to sell them –– no "testing the waters" to gauge buyer interest or taking pre-orders. No sales for third parties. If your "friend" wishes to sell here, he must take the time to open a separate account

If you break any of these rules, your ad may be removed or locked without notice.

Most importantly:

These for sale forums operate on honesty and integrity. If you cannot handle deals in an appropriate manner, don't post here! If you break our trust, it will be noted in our feedback forum –– selling rights may be removed and/or your account here will be subject to termination.

All items listed for sale should be described honestly. Do not attempt to represent replica (AirSoft, etc.) parts/products or cheap knockoffs as if they were Name Brand/OEM equipment! Do not knowingly sell defective products without acknowledging the defect. You must handle your transactions in a timely fashion. If you can't, don't buy it or sell it. And lastly, please maintain a reasonable level of civility. If a problem arises, don't immediately fly off the handle with threats & insults.

Before you buy or sell please read the following link:

–– MUST READ...!! How to conduct transactions for sellers and buyers! ––

Thank you,

EE Staff & Mods

Wow, some of those rules would solve a lot of our problems.
