Show me your custom camp knife/chopper.

Chuck Richard's.

Canadian Antoine Marcal's take on the asian dao influence. This is a real beast at 12.5" blade and 19" overall.

Three that I've used. Takeda at top, Matt Lamey in the middle showing a strong Fikes influence, and an early Fuad Accawi at bottom.

And finally a holy grail for me when I first saw it. It exchanged hands a fews times until I was lucky enough to nab it from Mr. Gill some 3 years or so ago. A Nick Wheeler with Fikes influence.

WOW...some impressive choppers. Great thread.

There are too many to start naming them, but now I see why Fikes knives are so cherished!

^^^ I saw that Antoine Marcal piece - or one very like it - at a past CKG show. Really nicely done.

Roger, it's most likely the very same piece you saw. I took notice of his name that year when you posted your CKG report here. Googled his name and got his website and soon after that he had that knife in his available page. I didn't pull the trigger until some time later, but very glad that I did. It was a steal. I love getting values like that from makers that were unknown to me at the time.

Ever been seduced by the ugly sister (this genre of knives) of a beauty queen? Well, if your knife libido is banging on the ceiling over this thread the answer is yes, and you qualify as a "happy camper" like me.

You got that right, Grapevine, that Wheeler camper has been my vicarious Holy Grail camper since I first saw it. Can't count the times I've journeyed to Nick's webpage to indulged myself. That it has changed hands like some delinquent orphan is less rational than the Nobel Peace Prize selection committee. That said, if it were mine, it would be changing hands constantly . . . right to left, left to right . . . as I maneuver to slew all of the orks in the cosmos. No, not King Arthur's Excalibur or a King Loveless Big Bear, but Wheeler's camper. Yeah, I know . . . but my nursing home is low on meds.

Great grab and savy move.

Here is a bit more camp knife eye candy. None are mine, but I'd be happy to own any one of them:

I cannot believe how beautiful some of these knives are. If this is indicative of what will be at the Ohio Knife show at the end of this month I better stay home. OR....take the wife with me.

Great job guys.

Bill

Here is one from Mike Engle.About as big as you could want and still be able to carry on your belt. The second bowie is by ICC knives.

Wow so many nice knives. Show me more it has really helped me find some new makers to consider. Thanks to all for your contributions.

Forged and finished this one at the ABS Intro course Haywood, which was a Burt foster influenced knife.

And this was my Performance test blade from the Intro course, before the bend test! It passed!

Here's mine.

A JK Hudson Bay 7" with torched oak handles, brass pins, and an as-forged finish on the flats. This shot was from a trip to Algonquin Park this past summer.
