Show me your custom camp knife/chopper.

These are in process for a couple forum members... They are still waiting for sheaths and a final cutting edge.

Rick, I think I'll purchase stock in that twine company! Those are both formidable pieces and that Kamisaurus is a very unique interpretation of the standard. I love it!!

Rick, that Kamisaurus couldn't be any more off the map! It's a total beauty, and about the only thing that I prefer over that perfect waki. I want both!

I would seriously love to see your interpretation of a two handed cleaver.:D

Whoever gets these will be pretty impressed by the performance of the 1084FG. The slicer from you has been performing flawlessly.

Hi!

Here's a sneak peak at the spine/tip of my competition chopper (made by Farid Mehr in D3). ;)

And my 1977 Mike Leach in D2 (nevermind the Strider AR for size comparison purposes)

Hi Mack?

The largest width of the fully tapered tang is just shy of 2cm near the tip. This is the knife Farid built for and used at the Bladesports World Championship 2012 before letting me grab it. ;) An impressive piece that shows Farid's skills.

Alex

He's not answering emails
Gah:confused:... you just sent an email last night. If I missed a prior one, I'm truly sorry.:o... I will reply to you soon, my friend. I've been spending lots of time in the shop. Thanks for the compliment.

Here is a chopper that my dad made. The blade is 15 1/4" in length and 25" overall. The blade is composite, consisting of a piece of steel sandwiched in between two pieces of carbon fiber. The blade is a piece of metal we got out of an old Miter saw. The spine is three sheets of carbon fiber thick. Each sheet of carbon fiber consists of 10 layers of fiber. The weight comes in at 15 oz.

Tank, your Dad seriously needs to make more knives. That chopper is REALLY cool. A 25" OAL knife weighing in at 15 ounces is bound to be fun to swing around, not to mention the materials used. How did he bond the CF to the steel?

Thanks for the compliment :) and he used 3M 8115 epoxy. You are right about swinging it around, it's loads of fun, it chops through 2x4s like crazy. He has made a sword out of this and another knife but the sword is a little unstable and we plan to mess with a few other knife and sword shapes. Any ideas on what other kinds of shapes would be interesting to experiment with?

I just got this from Arms and Armour in Minneapolis from their one of a kind page. A nice 13.5" blade with walnut scales and tubular rivets. Quite fast in the hand.

Here is one that is going out to Kenny Rowe today. Not the best at photography but trying to get there.

Blade 12" w-2, fixtures 39 layer mild and pure nickle twisted, guard is 3 pieces stacked, handle is stabilized crush KOA. Cannot capture the chatoyance. Hamon is even harder to capture in the photo. I had to do some interesting flash applications. still not easily seen but it is VERY active.

Enjoy
