Greg, no wonder those original CCs are so collectable. I've seen the new stuff that SMKW puts out. They're nice, but they don't compare to the "real thing." Thanks for the eye candy.

OK...maybe it's not strictly a traditional but it is absolutely beautiful fossil ivory....

View attachment 1542260 Picked up this C Platts’ Sons reproduction recently. Aside from a little shrinkage at the bolsters, I’m well pleased with the quality. Made in Germany.
That's a gorgeous whittler, I was pretty bummed to see it sold before I got there...I've been on the hunt for an ivory whittler:(;)

I don't think this is a very good thread to resurrect, it's 11 years since the last post, and most of the photos are either missing or watermarked. Isn't there a more recent ivory thread?

It’s the first one I could find, and I didn’t want to get scolded for starting a subject thread that already existed, but I’d be happy to start a new one as it’s one of my favorite cover materials.

Fair point! :) I've just done a search, and there's a few, but if I recall correctly, some of threads inviting photos of ivory-covered knives haven't had the word 'ivory' in the title. I realise it's not always an easy call, but there's some advice on 'necromancy' in the sub-forum guidelines (below). Among the existing threads is a short one from 2016, but in this case, you might be better starting a new thread, not least because the last post in this thread, from 2010, shows a non-traditional knife, and is posted by a banned member. Perhaps @Peregrin can advise

Thread "necromancy" is frowned upon. Please do not resurrect dormant threads simply to say "nice knife" or the like.
If you have something substantive to add to the discussion then by all means do so, otherwise move on and let sleeping dogs lie.

I think the things to look out for in terms of deciding whether to resurrect a thread, or start a new one, is if there is a thread on the subject still ACTIVE, and also if you have something substantive to add. When searching make sure you are searching this sub-forum only

Edit - Just adding a pic ;)
