Show Me Your Ivory ;)

Bruce Bump is a very sculptural Artisan!! Note the blades in #010, his 10th folder!! He used some nice Ivory with a subtle grain and texture! I wonder how many knives he has made since?? Or if he still numbers them??
An interesting thing for a knifemaker to do, it provides a good amount of history in a simple number!!:cool:View attachment 1548016 View attachment 1548017 View attachment 1548018
I have his #007 posted on a previous page that I recently acquired. I asked him about it and he told me that he has made 80 slipjoints so far. Last week, I seen a post of his most recent work of a combo pistol knife and it is a pure piece of artwork. Thanks for sharing that beautiful two blade!

If you had to choose a favorite variety of ivory, which would it be Chief Chief ? Elephant? Mammoth? Interior or bark?

Have a fondness for bark with the wear and tear / crackle visible, more interesting. The outer portion of a tusk is called dentine, much harder than the interior with a natural curvature, polishes up nicely. First pic is elephant, others are mammoth. Between those would probably take mammoth for the colors and availability. Cool to have covers from something that lived tens of thousands of years ago.

Not sure why but I never actually thought mammoth scales are actual mammoth scales. I thought they were elephant ivory called mammoth. If they’re actually real mammoth looks like that’s something I need to add to my collection lol

There’s definitely a difference between the two just as there is a difference between the laws and regulations of the two materials. I’m more interested in the crackle character as well, but find the purity of the interior EI stuff appealing for the rarity of it. Great show, John!

Chief Chief - Outstanding show Sir !!! And I agree Mammoth Bark is also my favorite ivory.

I have always appreciated this Northwoods for it's unique blade design, appropriately called the Bohncliffe. Of course it reminds me of it's designer, our friend Derek (RIP) who was a designer of discriminating taste. Having this Forest Jack made in shadow style was one of his better ideas... the more Mammoth the better!
For the last few days I've been carrying it in this cool custom slip. This beautiful slip was gifted to me by one of our more talented members, who has become a friend to many here on the porch. Thank you Greg ( sunknife sunknife ) I treasure your generous gift already and will for many years to come. 🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️ I give you and it the "5 Dagger Award" because I have yet to locate a pocket knife symbol. ;)
