I think that one is older than the beer scouts, crown lifters and the second run of radio knives with the diamond shields. They have the same cap lifter as the original radio knives. Maybe it was a Special factory assembly made with scout and radio knife parts but I don’t know that for sure. The other knives I’ve seen with that shield had secondary blades. I’m sure there is someone who knows for sure. Sure is a nice one

i think someone once modded a 15 and put just a caplifter on no blade

Why stop at one caplifter? :D

That one’s a keeper, Charlie!  :D

I get some of the cap-lifter knives confused! I misplaced one for a while, then found it! Pictures coming!
What is the difference, my fellow porch denizens, between a "soda scout,
a crown lifter, and a beer scout, and any other #15 with a cap lifter??
Radio knife?? Please help with the definitions!! I should know these!!:p

I’ll try to answer this question to the best of my ability/knowledge.

Beer Scouts are easiest to identify, as they’re labeled “Beer Scout Knife” on the shield. This serialized Charred Beer Barrel Oak from the second run of Beer Scouts (2016) might be my favorite.

The ones referred to as “Soda Scouts” are identical to the Beer Scout (sheepsfoot, caplifter, bail) but have the simpler “Scout” shield. The only difference between these and the knife you shared (other than the design of the caplifter, as J jsdistin pointed out) is the bail. I don’t know if “Soda Scout” was a name actually used by GEC, or if it was a nickname used by customers that just sort of stuck.

I think both Radio Knives and Crown Lifters are identified by their blade etches.

To be honest, I’m not really sure where that leaves the knife you posted, Charlie. There are single blade and two-blade (sheepsfoot main, pen secondary) #15’s with that “Scout” shield that I think folks normally just refer to as “#15 Scouts,” but I don’t know exactly what to call yours (other than “awesome!” :D).

Here’s one last photo while we’re talking #15’s with caplifters. Sort of a Rockettes kick line, but with #15’s. :D

Past post of mine in the "what's the difference between Radio and Beer Scout" thread:

GEC's first 15 with a bottle opener was the clip point with nail nick “Huckleberry Boys Radio Knife” of 2013. In 2014, Mr. CC’s SFO “Diamond Radio Jack” with nail nicked spear point and end caps was introduced along with the regular GEC production “Crown Lifter” which was either long pull clip point or spear with nail nick and end caps....and a few one-armed versions in there too. In 2015 we got the ”Beer Scout” and related SFOs all with long pull sheepsfoot, bails, and easy open notch. In 2016 the “Beer Scout” returned, no SFOs but we got a new “Crown Lifter” with nail nicked sheepsfoot and easy open notch....then there are the grails, the rendezvous parts knives specials...2014 “Sheep Lifter” long pull sheepsfoot with end caps, 2014 “Radio Scout” long pull sheepsfoot with easy open notch, the 2015 spear point “Beer Scout” and the 2015 “TC Beerlow.”

Lovely knives pictured here....missing the Gun Scout. Both "Soda Scout" and "Gun Scout" are nicknames for the 2015 Beer Scout SFOs...one from Knives Ship Free and the other from Gunstock Jack (I think it was KSF anyway). Radio Scout, Sheep Lifter/Sheeplifter and Beerlow are likewise nicknames (I think Evan gets credit for Beerlow). The rendezvous special crown lifters (not capitalized to distinguish from proper "Crown Lifters") are my grails....extremely rare and highly desirable. That "Radio Scout" of yours Mr. CC is a beauty, I think they only made 6 or 7 of those...how about posting a picture of that other crown lifter grail of yours, the rendezvous Beerlow….only 2 or 3 of those I think.

Yes, this nomenclature of 15s becomes confusing, but amusing ;) I traded my only Radio Jack (Clip/Lifter Red Bone Barehead) for a 56.

What I do know is that this frame suits a Sheepfoot for sure and it boasts a long blade which is welcome in a compact frame. Here, a 'sober';) (sombre?) Scout in groovy Nifebrite all steel construction paired with all steel Crown Lifter whose back springs are Master tolerance, so smooth and where's the gap? There aint none:thumbsup: My non 'sober' Beer Scout has brass liners and Smooth Bone, he's led a rather rough house life in my kitchen....:D but that's another story...

Here are the “parents” of Mr. CC’s rendezvous “Radio Scout” pictured above ... take the cap lifter (crown lifter had not been used by GEC yet) off the recently introduced “Radio” knife and install it in place of the secondary pen blade on the likewise new “Scout” knife and you create a masterpiece that was to become the prototype for the future Beer Scouts and Crown Lifters.upload_2020-2-28_10-13-55.jpeg

YEP one of the true gems...the 2014/2015 rendezvous Beer Scout spearpoint. I've been tempted to ping you on that knife to see if you still had it. I have one of the red sawcut versions.

Yup, still have it and still kicking myself for not picking up one of the sawcut's also, it was my first Rendezvous and I was a little overwhelmed.

I think the term "grail" is thrown around too much these days. Grails should not only be something you seek but that others are seeking as well AND the chance of anybody actually getting a hold of one is nearly impossible because a grail is also exceedingly rare. My focus is by far and away on GEC's 15s, with TC Barlows and anything with a cap/crown lifter on it being my most prized knives. Mr. CC's rendezvous Beerlow (pictured above) is thus THE GRAIL for me being both a TC and having a lifter...my other grails are the rendezvous 15s with lifters...the Radio Scout, the Sheeplifter, and the spearpoint Beer Scouts ... that ivory spearpoint of yours Augie is very special, thanks for sharing.
