Show off your GEC Acrylics

I had the 66 which I sold, but my 15 stainless is special. It's the only tortoise I have.

Not sure if anyone has put together all the production data into a database...but I wanted to see all the tortoise shell acrylics that GEC has produced.
By doing so, I was enlightened by a ton of different acrylics I've never dreamed of before. Seriously, there must be at least 100 different acrylics maybe more. I'll work on that list next but for now here is a list of all the tortoise shell acrylic knives made between 2009-2017 (model #, make, production total, production year). I couldn't find any made from 2006-2008.

I am seriously intrigued by the few that have production totals of 1 :) What was that 151116 from the 2017 production?

151116 would be a single clip #15. They made a regular run of GEC (stainless) clip point #15’s in 2016 (early summer, if I remember correctly) that included tortoise shell acrylic (103 pieces). Not sure why one of them made it onto the 2017 totals. Parts knife, maybe? Perhaps a half-finished knife got kicked under a table in 2016 then found and finished in 2017? :D

By the way, I’ve noticed your spelling of Tidioute included a couple extra letters. It’s Tidioute, not Tidiouette.

Doh! I'll fix that sorry :)

Hey Darren, some of those numbers are deceiving, to a degree. Although mostly accurate, on a few, less were actually made than listed on the GEC site. I have 1 of the Northfield #89 Executive Whittlers made, that were 1 of 8 made. One of my Tidioute #25s, in Tortoise, with a Wharncliff single blade, they claim that 51 were made but actually only 47 were made, even though they put the 1 of 50 on the blade etch!

I wonder how many of those are the same acrylic given a different name. For example, #15 Beer Scout in “Draft Beer Acrylic”:

GEC-4506__42636.1478728287.jpg

#48 Weasel in “Tiger Eye Acrylic”:

gec-48-2-blade-acrylic__21838.1491416235.jpg

Still, that is a long list!

That could very well be it sure looks the same to me. In the earlier years they didn't always include the word "acrylic" in the production totals so there may be a few that I misinterpreted.

Another correction, Darren, Good & Plenty is bone. I think "Burnt Stag" has an example of it.
Thanks Jeff :) I wasn't sure about that one but I could totally picture a pink and white acrylic called Good n Plenty. List edited.

I wasn't sure about the Awabi either or crushed shell types.
