Thrilling thread with a parade of supreme knives/hawks, but Murray's Sakmar and Broadwell fighters are show-stoppers for me. Makes one wonder why more fixed blade handles are not richer in texture/flair.

If I could pick 5 knives from Murray's vast and impressive collection, that Broadwell would be one of them.

Great thread, some real beauties have been posted. Don, that bark you left on your scales is really my favorite. Sometimes I like to get a glimpse of the beauty that lays beneath but once the material is ground smooth it lacks a dimension, IMO.

Here's a texture I haven't seen elsewhere on an Ed Schempp blade, and some of my favorite material, Ed Fowler sheephorn...

You can't really tell from this pic but the damascus pattern is ridged. If I can take a better pic (unlikely) I'll update my post.

hey where r all the cool ken onion textures?.....share some ken.....ryan:thumbup:

I keep coming back to this one...amazing...how is that done? carved? etched? ??

The blade steel was made using forging dies in a press that were carved / textured. Don Fogg spent a few years exploring the concept, and if you scroll above you'll see other examples. The fittings were almost certainly done the same way, but I don't know for sure.

Awesome stuff guys !! What a beautiful collection of knives with a focus on texture. Keep them coming!

My photography on stuff like this is subpar which is why I don't like taking pics of my knives, but here are some pics I saved of a couple knives I tried to photograph.

actually RWS some of the images are not too bad. I'd suggest that the biggest change to be made off the top is to select less busy and darker backgrounds as currently the background is taking the eye to it and not to the knife.

read my thread

and hopefully some of the info will be of assistance
Thanks, Murray. It's much appreciated.

When I shot a couple of these(i.e., the flower background), I used my wife's expensive comforter to lay the knives on.

Needless to say, she never needs to see these photos unless I want to be castrated. :D

RWS,

Great knives! Who are the makers?

The smaller knife would be particularly adept at castrations. Don't mean to get personal, but are you repressing memories? I'm thinking your wife has already struck, given you are the beacon of virginity?

RWS's Daniel Winkler bowie above is amazing in every way.

Most appreciate Dan for his ability in making primitive knives which of course requires it's own particular skill set, however the piece above demonstrates that he can make a complex dress bowie that will rival practically any maker out there.

Here is some texture. Phil Boguszewski Cobra with window pierced titanium and rayskin backing, Phil Boguszewski King Cobra with pebble textured titanium, two J.L. Williams flippers, and a Dragster from the guy that started the thread.;)
