Hey Ken, you looking for new ideas? :D

I try to look here on BF and see what's going on, but I really only have a little time to play on the forums so I rarely post. However, Ken's thread has pulled me out of the lurk mode. It is one of the best I've ever seen! Thanks to all who've posted pics of my work, and thanks to the rest of you for posting such beautiful and inspirational knives.

I began using textures in the mid 80s when I got tired of mirror finishes. I used different grits of paper to give subtle two tone finishes to blades. In the mid 90s I started intentionally cutting textures. I feel that textures give you a broader range of sensations when examining a knife. Along with seeing them, there is a nice tactile sensation. Even on the web when you see the textures in the pics you can almost feel them. That's why I do them.

I'd post a couple of newer pictures by I'm not an advanced member. Don't want to look like a mercenary.

Thanks for an awesome thread, Ken.

Here is one of my favorite Hanson handles (one of my favorite Hanson knives, for that matter) :

If it doesn't look right to you (I can see STeven turning up his nose! :D), you should feel it in hand. Natural anti-slip package with this gnarly walrus.

And, some Primros texture added to these two.

Very interesting thread indeed, there are so many ways to texture knives.

I like to etch damascus very deeply sometimes, it creates some interesting textures, like this:
