Reminds me of fruity pebbles cereal (one of my favorites growing up).

I think that's actually from an earlier run that was indeed dubbed "Fruity Pebbles". "Smashed Hippie" is a slightly different recipe I think.

that batch shown on the little hawk was from a batch i had called fruity pebbles
i have no more of that batch
the smashed hippie batch was the bright block i had just made

more colors coming down the pipe including black and bright orange and another batch of burlap

Can you use pretty much any type of material in homemade mycarta? I notice the fellow in here used felt. Interesting I would of though you have to use stouter, non-strechy fabric.

Is that not the case?

You do a great job, keep it up.
I like the lighter color ones the best. -

What do you do to make these? I've seen people use marines glue, and basically wad up the materials, but that's as far as I've seen. If it is all based on what you want it to look like, what are the basic steps that remain the same? (Email me if it is too complicated)

So, does anyone have an answer to my question? Can any type fabric be used or does it have to be more tough, non-elastic..?

I'm thinking of some of my old polo shirts, they're like a thick, stretchy knit-type fabric. Has anyone used something like this?

that is so awsome i had no idea that some one could make this stuff by themselves great work guys and great links mike!

Based on the third link I posted, regular fabrics seem to work, so it seems that any kinds of materials would work, but don't take anything I say too seriously.

Now if anyone can answer this question: is mycarta harmful to you when sanding, like other handles are?

YES! Please wear a respirator, eye protection and employ good ventilation when sanding anything. OK, maybe you can get by without eye protection if sanding by hand.

I still want to see some mycarta made of old cammies... don't make me do it myself, I have too many irons in the fire as it is :o

You can use just about and fabric or material that will absorb liquids readily.
Keep in mind the stronger the material you use the stronger the end product.
Also slow cure is the way to go. Slower the cure the stronger and the easier it is to finish.
There are many tricks to making good stuff

Not sure if this counts, but here it is.

I just received some Todd Combs blue-glow burlap (it glows in the dark!). I inlayed some desert ironwood. It's not finished yet, but it's getting there. This is my first time working with synthetic handle material.
