My oldest turned 16 yesterday, he has a nice SAK and a little Shuffle, but it was about time he got a "real knife" so I gave him a Bantam... Since I was in the groove I decided to make one for my Code4 while I was at it and had the free time.
I like to make my own lanyards simply because I don't like the length of most of the one I like and can buy.
I like them short, about 2", not so thick, small knot at the end and if it's not for looks, I like the weight ( beads and so on) close to the handle,
otherwise, if the lanyard is too long I get nice hit on the knuckles when hit something.
I like them made with reflective paracord because it's very easy to find the knife if you drop it in the grass or in the insulation in the attic and so on, just hit the area with your flashlight and you'll see it.
The lanyard on the black Grip isn't mine, it came with the knife, purchased from the exchange, but is pretty much exactly what I like:
Lately I've being attaching one lanyard to multiple knives by the clip. It works just fine and I prefer it this way for number of reasons.
When I remove the lanyards from my other knives, that are going trough both scales, to clean them, I'll switch to this way of carry, I like it better...
Hi skyhorse, after I lost few folders fishing on a boat in the Gulf, I came to the same bright idea I usually secure the long end of the lanyard to a loop on my shorts. this way if I drop the knife it doesn't sinks, if I need it without the lanyard, I can always un-clip it... It's being working for me for a long time, but as you can see of the pre-historic M-Tec copy of Tops folder, and the $25 CRKT wharny I don't carry anymore good knives on a boat...
