Show us your Randalls

Best,

Ron, love this blade!

Just re-started knife-collecting a year ago, after a lay-off of ten years, and had to start over from zero, so it'll be a while before things get built back up again. But, here are the Randalls I've gotten my paws on so far:

RandallGroupShot00.jpg

- A cool toothpick from some time ago, nice ironwood?, from when I'm not quite sure yet - have to become more Randall-saavy. Someone's name factory-stamped on the back, still cool though.
- a 12-9 14-grind in boring black micarta, heh.
- Gambler with a cool guard and nice burl.
- a 10-3 in orange G-10.

And that's it for now! Next up: either a 19 or a monster bowie like a RT or a Smithsonian.

How do you like that 10-3? I've been eyeing one for a little while now as my first Randall

Got my first Randall today!

It's kind of ironic that its a fireman special and I'm a police officer. I will be renaming it the first responder lol. I'm thinking a 16 will be next with a single finger groove handle:D

Those '1st Responders' are good, solid knives Daisy, it should serve you well...

New member.. I just picked this one up by accident ( It stopped me in my tracks:eek::D) and could not go home without it

Randall # 1-7 with Ivory.. :D:D:D:D

As I only live about 20 minutes from the RANDALL shop.. I called and spoke to Jason Randall.. he asked that I bring him the knife as he would like to see it..

Ivory WAS once offered through the shop until the ban.. but no longer.... They will still do Ivory, but the customer has to supply it along with the proper paperwork..

Welcome ditrina,

Nice knife, nice photos too. Yes, RMK offered ivory through the late 1960's. Yours was customer supplied. ST/NST grind? Very cool stuff. BTW, possibly you meant to type Jason Randall, RMK owner Gary Randall's son?

I've been picking up some nice stag handled Randall's lately - a #1-6, #1-7, #6-9 all with SS blades, NS hilts, metal spacers, and NS end plates. I have a couple of GTR's and Denmark Specials coming soon with the same options, and a steak knife too - looks like I'm getting ready to kill, grill, an' eat sumpin' tasty soon... ;)

Photos coming...

I would ask.. How did you know the Ivory was customer supplied..

Thanks..

The grind and the sheath more than likely told him that it was built later than the 60s.
That is a spectacular knife. Congrats on it.

Thanks Ron. This Model 5 is my favorite Randall in my collection. I purchased it from Sheldon a while back. He's got good stuff, but don't tell him or he'll raise his prices. :D

I'm always interested in lanyards, especially when they're personalized or different from what the shop supplied. Tell me about the lanyard on the bottom knife. It appears to be thicker than normal leather lace, knotted, and wound with black thread to hold down the ends. Do you have any history on that knife?

Hi Daisy,

It's a 5-5. I have a 16 as well, however, for general use, the 5 is the way to go.

Thanks Tom, (way to tempt with the sweet 16) I guess I'll have to get one of each now the 5/5 will probably come first tho...maybe haha

It's a WWII Hunter circa mid to late '44. I bought it from Michael Johnson at a Blade Show maybe 7 years ago. (Michael's nose for sniffing out old Randalls is unparalled!). The accompanying CJ Moore sheath is what grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. I believe Michael got that knife as part of a collection he bought. The knife has been sharpened, but not used. The thickness of the lanyard is pretty much standard, but the technique of securing the two loose ends with wrapped thread was something I had never seen before. It's much "cleaner" than a knot IMO.

Best,

Ron - so there is no knot in the middle? The two ends cross, lay flat together, and are wrapped on each end? Neat! I'll have to give that a try. I still like your father's knife the best (2nd one down on the right, IIRC).

Daisy - for the record, I love the Model 16, but to me, it is a specialty knife. It has a low grind, thick edge, and a spear point all specifically designed for cutting and light prying underwater. It might make a good camp knife for light chopping, but other than that, its a full-fledged dive knife. If you like the channel design and strength of the 16, for all-round use, you made an excellent choice with your Fireman. That's one cool little knife and much more practical than the 16 with its 7" blade. Trust me, I've drooled over that Fireman many times.
