Show us your Randalls

This Model 5 is my favorite Randall in my collection. I purchased it from Sheldon a while back. He's got good stuff, but don't tell him or he'll raise his prices.
Ssshhh...very seldom do knives from my personal collection see the light of day, but that one has/had your name all over it Tom. :)

Ron, cripes, every time I see that photo my heart races again - uncommon these days; thanks again for the rush! :D

Sorry Shel. I won't tell anyone else. I just wanted to give Blue Star Knives a little plug. I like the dude who runs it. :D

Ron - so there is no knot in the middle? The two ends cross, lay flat together, and are wrapped on each end? Neat! I'll have to give that a try. I still like your father's knife the best (2nd one down on the right, IIRC).

Right, Tom: No knot! I'm kinda partial to my Dad's knife as well for some reason. That's an older photo. I've picked up a couple more keepers since. It's a never ending obsession I'm afraid.

Tom I think you just made my decision easier. I figured the 16 would be over kill for edc but I carry a 6-7" fixedblade everyday in my front pocket so I'm not the best judge of overkill lol. I'm realy crushing hard on the 5-5. I like that its a 1/4 stock and available in carbon steel. I got a little Randall drunk today obsessing over all the options and going back and forth on ordering from Randall or compromising ang going for one already available. So many choices, I wish I could lay hands on a few before deciding.

Daisy, there are certainly a lot of options to choose from, but sometimes less is more. I like staying close to the catalog knives. To me, they are timeless classics. If you go with a 5-5, consider the old style, squared-off top guard, which can still be special ordered. The new ones are rounded. Nothing wrong with a nice stag handle or nickel silver either. Just look at Ron's old hunter collection. They're pretty straight forward, but I never get tired of looking at them.

Welcome, Shel. Just wait until you get my age: Just taking a successful dump makes one's heart race! :D

While they are all beauties, the second one down on the left side nearly stops my heart when I see it.

Yeah I'm leaning towards the standard catalog model with the addition of a lanyard tube. However I do like the 26 that shel picked up over on knife forums with the orange handles :)

Thanks Ron. That is as close to perfection as it gets.

Thanks. It is nice.

I did not realize the handle was in shadow. I'll try to post a better picture tomorrow.

I ordered this matched Model #25 handle set, received them over time, then sold them to a friend in NC - he sent me this collection photo today. Enjoy. :)

If I was to write another book on Randall Knives, I'd sure try to include photos like this, and Tom's, and Ron's above...

It was a tough set to build - ordered through various authorized RMK dealers, there were several hiccups along the way. IIRC, it took ten knives ordered to get the six shown here; the end caps are rounded NS w/lanyard holes. One came with a squared off end cap, another in aluminum, one w/no lanyard hole, and one of the SS blade ordered knives arrived with a O1 high-carbon tool-steel blade...very frustrating; and, it took a lot of time, and a lot of money to pull it off. Glad that it worked out in the end, and that my friend is pleased... :)

Wow, what a pain. But the results are worth it. I've been hunting one Randall, and seem to keep missing it when it pops up at a reasonable price. A 26-4 with 25 handle and brass hilt and buttcap. Can you keep an eye out for one of these for me?

Sheldon,

This is a very nice set, but I've got to ask - even if the knives were ordered through various dealers, why were there so many hiccups along the way? Was the shop messing up the orders for specific options?

I can see why he's happy about this set. What a dream lineup.

Now that, Tom, that would be the $2000 question. Chances are, I just wasn't specific enough about what I wanted. I'm kinda new to this stuff...

By the by, I really should've kept the #12-9 Sportsman's Bowie in O1 on the left - that one is about as perfect a knife as I've ever seen, made by anyone...
