In case anyone is unfamiliar with atlatls, they’re an ancient form of ranged weapon that pre-dates the bow & arrow by quite a bit. The first atlatls ever used date back to the Upper Paleolithic era.

They’re very versatile weapons. A skilled Atlatl user can hunt anything from a rabbit to a hog or deer.

And best of all, they can be simple to make. It’s a fun and very quick project for anyone with a knife. All-in-all, I spent about 30 minutes making the atlatl and two spears.

In case anyone here is interested in making one, here’s a short tutorial I found helpful.

Yeah I remember seeing a guy on Discovery or History channel using one of those quite well.

Scraping cocoons out of a feed bowl with a Mora Kansbol. I have been carrying the Mora for a couple weeks, along with the Spyderco Enuf. I like the Kansbol, but somehow I usually use the Enuf instead. The only thing that I have cut recently with the Kansbol was the corner of a flap of cardboard that was preventing a box of aluminum foil from closing, which hardly seemed worthy of a picture.

From the last couple days.

Finished the knifework on this walking stick. Made two of the four spirals thicker than the other two, I think it looks nice. I still have to sand and oil this stick.

Had a fire.

It started raining, but the fire was big enough to be self-sufficient by then.

Found this little guy inching around on my arm, ended up placing him on a nice leaf.
