Show Your Buck 501's

Does anyone know when they switched from stamp to laser
I read some years ago, when Buck was stamping most all steel that the harder, powder steels had more breakage when stamped so they choose etching for them.

Buck will engrave names, dates etc. Brady is probably the former owners name.

knarfeng knarfeng oh boy, Frank, did you ever hit the jackpot on those scales. Someone at Buck was on their game when they made that 501!

Not as nice as some of the other Buck 501 knives posted here but I like these a lot. The model 501 is by far my favorite Buck model.

From left to right; an old micarta handled 501 that was re-bladed around 2013 if I read the blade correctly, a custom shop 501 with buffalo horn and a S30v blade. The next 2 are my 501 Larrins. The one on the left is my safe queen. The one on the right has been my EC for the last several weeks.

What are your impressions of the new steel?

I am an office worker so my cutting chores are not that tough on a knife edge. Opening mail and cutting up cardboard boxes for recycling. With that in mind I feel Magnacut to be similar to S30v but better. It is easy to sharpen using my ceramic stones and seems to hold a good working edge longer than S30v. I am very pleased with both the steel and the knife. I see anything pushing it out of my pocket anytime soon.

Picked up the second 501 from the post office. The stamp is made only on the left side, on the right the steel grade and Bos are engraved with a cutter. The knife is very good! They have quite different spring tension force, the stamped one has much less pressing force. The royal tree, judging by the wood grain pattern, is the same version as mine, only painted with additional paint

On one of the 501s I trimmed the spring with a dremel. Now the blade doesn't hit it and doesn't become dull, and the spring has also become softer. It was too powerful, now it's the same as 112, I mean the pressure on the finger to unlock, but still more rigid than the second one with an indigo handle
