wonder what it had been cutting all those years as the stainless bolsters held up well but the blade took some pitting there. guess something acidic or whatnot. still looks great though for a long time user.it looks black don't it , I think it's just so old and dirty ? It should be back from SPA this week I hope I bet it comes back with more burgundy color View attachment 1485925View attachment 1485926

bucklife301 that was fast! is the warranty time that short now?
Gettin Jiggy Wit It!
yep. knew that but didn't see custom shop laser etch on it. I did notice i think its Mr. Housers signature on it? very nice one anyways.Sunset jigged bone is one of the options in the custom shop for the 501.
I've read, here on BF, that Buck etches the harder steels and stamps 420hc.Here is mine, I use it all the time. Very good steel, I checked it twice with the device today, both times 61.5 +/- 0.3 HRc. I don't know what kind of material the scales are, looks like plywood. And I'd really like to know who Brady is. Bought it a couple years ago at auction for 50 or so. Today I picked up another one with Indigo wood, here the stamp is made mechanically, on mine it is made by laser. Custom knives do not write the year of production. Does anyone know when they switched from stamp to laser or should I write to Buck email?
I see the custom shop now has a Magnacut option, but the 501 is still being bypassed with this steel. Steel frame and carbon would be a great combination, but it's unlikely that this will ever happen
