Show your Indian River Jacks!

I have added the jigged bone to my cart several times. But I keep not getting it. I may have to revisit. (I'll probably decide I actually want one, just as there are none left, if past patterns hold).

Please talk about the knives and not the ordering process.

For those who own the 2015 version, if you would have only one Queen made knife in your collection, and no more, would this be a worthy candidate to represent one of their best?

I was going to ask what manufacturer makes these, but based on the last few posts, I'm assuming it's Queen. Do they have more than one facility? The tang stamp says Gladstone, MI, but I was under the impression that they are in PA.

Beautiful knives everyone! I bought one of these last year but returned it because of the F&F. I'm on the fence with the new ones.... love that long pull!

I'm really wondering about the same, how is F/F at that price point. I understand that these have the upgraded steel, but very high benchmarks have been set by others at this level.

I believe that northwoods knives was originally located in Michigan. That's why the tang says that. I could be wrong about that though, Derrick would be the one to ask.

The "Northwoods" trade name was originally owned by a fella in Gladstone, MI. He sold the name to Derrick, along with his existing stock. IIRC, the knives marked "Gladstone" were originally made by Queen, but I could be incorrect. Derrick would be the one to provide the definitive answer.

Frank is right. Queen made all of the older ones. If the blade steel is 1095, you know for certain that it is GEC build. Everything else is Queen.

Northwoods was started by a guy named Dave Shirley. He ran a little custom shop up in Gladstone Mi. I bought knives from him for a long time. When he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he sold me all of his old inventory and the name. We also bought the Scagel Trademark from him at the same time.

Dave passed away.

His only requirement from me was that we continued to make quality knives in the United States. That was my promise to him.

Thanks for the info Derrick! I recall hearing the story of how you acquired Northwoods, but didn't know the reason for the MI tang stamp. I really like a lot of the knives in the line, although I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of Queen because almost every knife I've gotten from them has had one issue or another..... love the designs though. Also loving the Forest Jack I got in the mail today!

I've made quite a few orders with KSF over the last few months. Here are my only three IRJs. I like this pattern and would like to find a couple of the other cover choices.

Found mine in the mail box today, sorry it's not much of a picture but it's raining today. I'd say these newer IRJ's are better than before fit and finish is still good but it opens smoother than my other two. All it needs now is pocket time.

I purchased the 2014 in Ebony, sold it, regretted it, and then jumped on the 2015. The knife is packaged in a perfect shape and size, very appealing, and nicely done.

My IRJ from '11 is still one of my favorite knives. No complaints whatsoever as to the original F&F. I did break the very tip(fraction of a mm)off very early on while whittling. Fixed that while sharpening and you wouldn't notice the difference. BUT, I filed down the kick a smidge too much (I get greedy with burying blades) so the blade hits the back spring ever so slightly causing a nick on the edge. Doesn't bother me none and will eventually sharpen out(same as the Madisons).

Unfortunately I had to return my just received yellow camel bone due to deformation/crease in the blade. Probably the only one in the entire run but…I got it.
If there is another go around, I’m going for the ram horn. Just gets better looking especially since I can’t have one…that's life!

I make a note for checking the f&f, play and blade issues, when I place an order. I was told they do inspect the knife if the customer requests for it.
