Show Your Machetes

Ok. Picture time. You'll have to excuse the bad lighting--it was overcast today so I had to use flash.

We'll start with a group shot:

From top to bottom:
Condor Bush Knife
Condor Combat Machete
Condor Viking
Cold Steel Barong machete
22" Express machete (USA made, but I can't find anything out about it)
2x 22" Nicholson/Collins machetes (one modified, one not)
22" USA-made Collins, modded by Fiddleback (and myself, but more on that later)

Here's a shot of the sheaths:

The mega-destroyed sheath goes to that Express machete. Can you tell it was my first? :D

Now for some close-up pics of that fancy Collins. :p

The handle was left a little on the rough side (which is ok, because for the low price payed he couldn't really spend too long on them for it to be profitable!) so the back of the handle was very square and painful on the palm. I spent a little time with the blade locked in a cardboard-lined vice and some 220 grit sandpaper and the contours at the spine are a LOT better now. These photos are all post-modification. Perhaps some of the other fellows who nabbed one of these treasures can share some pics of an unmodified one. :)

The newest ones are a Cold Steel 12" Bowie and an Ontario 18" budget model.

I also did some amateur woodburning on my Tramontina 18" model...

(18 for an 18-inch blade, so I don't have to remove it from the sheath to check)

My initials are on the other side because there are many Tramontinas in use here and I wanted no confusion as to which one is mine.

I finally got out in the woods today--that Collins is one hell of a chopper! Here are some more pics.

Found a big ol' leaner. Time to put it down for a nap!

For those who asked:

Custom knife maker Matt Zeeb listed this as a Machete. Just under 20" overall, 14.5" blade, hand forged from spring steel, rosewood handle. It followed me home a couple months ago. It cost about the same as a Spyderco folder at retail.

If you're interested, here's his email:

My choppers. The one on the left and the skinny thin one are my favorites:

Necro posts are good as long as the content is relevant...

all I have are a couple of Cold Steel Sax style machetes. I have only used them a time or two, as an ax or knife serve me better for what I do.

My recent endeavors, as many of you know by now. :D
