Danny Boy Leather,

Is that a Hershel House fixed blade? Very nice traditional trio. That would actually be pre Nessmuk trio.

Valcas1, Thank you. The fixed blade is by Tim Ridge. The friction folder by Randy Wolfe. However, I do own an Early Southern Rifle by Mr. House. Certainly the very finest (and most expensive) rifle in my humble collection. A real master of his craft...as you might know.

Yes, Nessmuk is just a youngster on the block with the group I run with. :D

A view of the Eastern Indian face carving on the butt of this Tim Ridge knife.

Here's a pic of my current trio:

IMG_2640.jpg

Delta 5, EDC pocket scandi based on a cobbler's blade from Ragnar's, and a Leatherman Wave.

I have been using only these three knives - with no real exceptions, save for two outings with my tomahawk - since November 2008.

This experiment has taught me a lot about the features that I would look for in an 'ideal trio' situation, assuming that I had no access to other knives. My EDC is pretty much ideal (for me) as-is. I would swap the hollow-ground Delta 5 for a thinner flat or scandi-ground knife with the same handle design. The Wave is very useful. Throw in an axe, hawk, or large chopper, and I would be content with this set-up forever.

Best,

- Mike

SAK Huntsman, Wally World Special fixed blade (great for rough use, digging holes, etc.) and a Collins Camper's Axe (made in Mexico, bought at a local True Value, sanded off the labels and nasty black paint, sanded off the varnish on the handle, stained the axe head, sharpened it up [still working on that] and used a wood burner on the handle)

Buck 110, SAK Huntsman, Collins Camp Axe. I carry the SAK in my pocket, the axe and my Fiskars pruning saw in a day pack and the Buck 110 on a belt with my Gerber gator pocket axe. Something for everyone. I harvested the wood with the Collins axe, the Gerber axe and the Fiskars saw. The SAK gets the next most use. The Buck 110 is a talisman.

here is my latest trio list of tools
axe:grandfors brunks small forest axe
fixed blade knife:mora 510

mine isnt too different than yours, pn. My trio (still in the works) Gransfors small forest axe, traditional scandi being made by Brian Andrews, and the Vic Farmer. I'll get a pic when the trio is fully assembled. currently, in place of the brian andrews knife, i am switching between an old traditional puukko and a mora craftsman in triflex.

No pics, but I carry a Himalayan Imports M-43, HI R-10, and Case Trapper. I also keep a canvas roll out tool-carrying thing with a six-way screwdriver, lineman pliers, Buck folding saw, and small prybar in my bag. I'll try to get pics of all of it sometime.

Not a trio as such. But left to right.
Wetterling Hatchet,
Blackjack Mamba,
Gerber Parabellum,
Gerber Saw,
Townsend custom drop point,
AKC gollok.
Bottom two a Vic Swiss tool and a Vic ceramic sharpener.

Pure sweetness! A familiar SE Asian large all-'rounder, a Nordic woodcrafter and a great Swiss EDC with a simple but functional American mod to add to its usefulness (the CLIP!)

The UN would be proud :D

BTW, may I ask if that golok is the Golok potong model?
