I am having a Hammer Inn on Nov 17 and 18th. All invited. I have a power hammer, press and forge that will be running and lots of other equipment. This is open to all. For the best to the novice. Will be all kinds of demonstrations from construction to grinding to forging. No charge (will be a donation can to help pay for propane for the forge) I live in Shreveport, Louisiana. My phone # is 318-865-8166 and address is 4887 Dixie Garden Loop 71105 zip code. It is real easy to get to coming from anywhere and can call for instructions. Always a good time. Plenty of parking and room. I have an acre of land an a 800 sq. ft. shop and a large over hang where forge and equipment is set up. Hopefully we can keep this thread up so all can see. Thanks and please come join us. Here are a few shots of one that we had. Any questions just ask.

Thanks for the invite Dan - I will be there!

For anyone on the fence, we had a great time last year. It was basically a controlled chaos that is still paying off for me personally. No doubt about it, knife making is a solitary thing; getting out and working/talking with other makers with differing goals and levels of experience is good all the way around.

I plan to bring some finished knives/leather for critique, some of my own hand tools and a few forgings for discussion (if they don't get cleaned up before then). Also expect that J will be sending another cake - only this time I promise not to cut it up with one of those fancy damascus and ivory daggers you leave laying around the shop (it was all Darrin's idea BTW).

Looking forward Dan - I'll call next week.

Great to hear Dan, and Andy is correct, there are many different skill levels at these hammer-ins. Everybody learns, everybody shares, & everybody has a good time. If you like knives and knifemaking and have the time you wont regret attending. Count me in.

Sounds like fun!

I have family in shreveport, but i live about 1100 miles from there and cant make it. Id love to stop in for a visit next time im in shreveport though!

Ill try my best to be there again. I learned way too much last time not to go! Not to mention the GREAT people I met and got to hang out with!!!!

You too Shane. I think I'll bring the family this time and they'll just camp out at a nearby hotel. I've got to use my last vacation week before I lose it so this is a good time for it.

I am looking forward to seeing you folks and meeting new friends. What about lunch? We are thinking grilling some hamburgers. Any thoughts?

Burgers would be fine but I thought Johnny did a pretty fine job on that brisket last year ;)

Can we try to make some stainless SanMai? I only have 1/4" stainless, which I'm sure is too thick, but I could bring some nickle foil. Maybe we could sandwhich some 3/32 O1 between the thick stainless?

Jason,
I have never done it. We can try. I dont know if Johnny is coming or not.

I am in on whatever just dont call me late for it! Let me know and I am glad to chip in as well as help. I will be staying with my sister in Shreveport but will be leaving from the firestation that Saturday morning. Hope we dont have too many calls after midnight or it will be a long day indeed! Jason, I have a good bit of 5160 ( flat stock 3/16ths by 1 3/4 ) if it will help ya.

Shane,
Would love a 18 " piece of that 5160. Be glad to pay for it.

I know NOTHING about making knives. Can I come anyway? I want to see how this is all done! And I'm 15 minutes from you! If I come, do I need to bring any steel or something?

Just saw the "everyone invited" part, so that question answered. I've never been to anything like this. So, we'll have the opportunity to try our hand at making something if we bring supplies? I'd love to try making something that I could finish at home!

Dan, how early can we kick it off on Saturday? I'll be leaving early on Sunday as well do I want to get in as much as possible. Shane, we'll be driving out to Monroe to go to Whites Ferry Road on Sunday morning. Guess who my wife wants to meet.

I will ask Kay and Phil to save us a seat no problem. I was telling Phil about you just today lol

We will start about 9:00 Sat. morning and yes folks will be forging etc. I let everyone get a chance to forge and start a project. This is for folks to learn and teach. I know I always learn things. Looking forward to it.
