Shreveport Hammer Inn Nov 17, 18 every one invited

Dan, since you're in Shreveport, where should I go to get some steel? And what kind? Is 1095 easy for the newbie I deal with? Or should I grab a handful of old files at the flea market? I know - a lot of questions. Refer to my earlier posts as to why.

Stalbot, I have some files I will give you. I am sure we can come up with something. Robert, bummer about the pork loin.

I wish all have a safe journey and great HI. I have prior committments as I promised a friend to take his 15 yr old grand daughter to our farm to chase whitetails. We will be hunting at Shongaloo for those familiar with Northern Louisiana at my camp on our 240 acre farm. Well, the lord willing and the creek don't rise we will enjoy another HI soon. Thanks all JW.

Dan Looks like I will be working an extra 24hr shift saturday :( However I will be glad to bring you some of the 5160 when I come up that way so no worries on that.

I'm going to have to handle a prior commitment for the first half of the day, hopefully only until noon. Then hopefully I'll be headed that way.

As bad as I hate to say it, I'm gonna have to miss out this year. I have a prior commitment that I forgot all about. I hope everybody has fun and y'all try to post some pics so I can see what I missed.

So then just me, William, Andy, and Stolbot half the time? Sounds like more one on one with the power hammer!

Sorry to hear that Darrin and Johnny - will definitely miss seeing you two.

I got a note from Charlie Lewis early last week saying that he plans to attend.

Shreveport weather is supposed to hold through the weekend - spectacular. Do I smell the "forge-kabobs" already? Gonna be a good one fellas.

-AWL-

Jason, dont forget about me. There are other folks coming also. Darrin, I am sad you cant make it, was looking forward to seeing you again, oh....and hell yes I am going to miss that boudin:) Shane, we will be here also on Sunday if you get the chance. Johnny sorry you cant make it also but have fun hunting.

Dan I believe Jason was going to come to west monroe sunday morning. I had told him I would join him and intro his family to some friends of mine, however if they decide not to come on sunday I will drive up when I get off duty that morning.

Shane, I got everything taken care of here and am free to come as planned.

Dan, you being there is a given. Who else is going to weld up the edges of the stainless SanMai?

LOL I see how this goes , watch him Dan :) Save me a 5" piece if you have a thin enough piece for a folder Jason.

I might come out and watch if you'll have me. I've never swung a hammer and I'm sure its going to end up making me want to spend money I don't have on awesome tools, but it would be worth it just to watch people much much better than I work on the belt grinder.

Oico, I highly recommend you attend, the time spent in 2 days will be a worth of knowledge and increase your learning curve, you won't be sorry I promise. The guys attending are very knowledgeble and share readily. Go for it.

oic0, I agree with Johnny, you will have a good time and learn a lot. You are most welcome to be here.

I was unable to meet due to a work conflict but did get to spend Sunday with JAWilder and will say that it was as if we had known each other from childhood. Awesome fellow and his family too. I saw his work first hand and its now in my kitchen! Just one less thing for him to need to take back to Texas lol! Thanks Dan for the event and bringing some new friends together.

What a great weekend! It was good to meet everybody. There was more information passed on than I could ever retain! But I went from knowing absolutely nothing about blade smithing to forging a blade myself, thanks to the help of all the guys that were there. Thanks Dan for hosting something like this!

A big thank you to Dan Graves for hosting another successful hammer-in. Good to visit with some familiar faces and meet some new ones too. That was a fine group of folks, fire and food there. Some good guys that had life get in the way were sorely missed, but hope we can all catch up soon.

Dan has a great place and the goodwill/patience to share it with all. I definitely enjoyed the opportunities provided and walked away with some fresh ideas and the usual craving for more, bigger and badder tooling. But I'll get over it in a few weeks. (Or so my lovely wife hopes...)

As usual, there were some unusual projects - Jason Wilder's killer forged hawk, and maybe a couple of turned brass cannon barrels - to be finished out for a test shot at next years gathering. Looking forward already.

Thanks Dan!

Thanks all that came because that is what makes it successful. I always enjoy working with folks who love the same thing as I do. I agree with Andy that there were some neat projects and thanks Jason for the hawk to work on. The Cannon barrels were a hoot to build but I stayed up to late Andy. Was whooped Sunday night but loved every second. I am sorry some folks could not make it as I know they wanted to come. Andy, send me those pictures and I will post them for Darrin and others to see. I will be having another in the spring and will announce it early. Just so much fun. A special thanks to Robert Parsons for cooking some great pork loin steaks for everyone. And thanks all who contributed to the donation pot and bought food. Helps me offset the cost.
