Shreveport LA Hammer Inn Oct."SOME PICTURES OF HAMMER INN ADDED"

Look forward to seeing everyone. This will be a better one as it will be more structured with demo's on grinding, forging, knife construction, handles, drinking coffee, blade testing, heat treating and discussions on suppliers, etc.

You can bring them but it depends on the time. I want everyone to have a chance to play on the power hammer and press.

Hey guys. Just picked up 14# of the Llano hard sausage - same as last spring but twice as much and a little more western. Goes on to smoke Wed late late. Have to pay off my good neighbors and will still have a piece or two in the truck. When I leave anyway.

Also got a couple links of some serious jalapeño boudin. I'll give it a light smoke it too Thur/later. Bait for Darrin and Ed....

Is Andy doing an angle grinding knife lesson. I tried that this summer and ended up with a shank

Yes there will be grinding demo's. Hollow and flat grinding also sharpening. I am looking forward to this one. Have good tips to pass on and hope I pick up some.

Hey Will. Glad you're coming - this is gonna be a blast!

I won't be doing any side-grinder demo but Dan will show how to do it right - all on his shiny new 2x72. (His old one finally died of exhaustion.)

He tells me I'm doing a forging demo and hope we can make a few blades. Maybe finish and wreck one down the line. I'll have some stuff with me from finished forgings out through finished knives. If anyone is interested I would be glad to share some thoughts on preparing and setting handle pins. Maybe demo on a small full-tang knife here that's ready and waiting.

I think Dan has some good ideas on the format this year.

Ice and an ice chest, drinks and cookies or some sort of desert, chips etc. not just you Will but everyone. All can bring some steel to thump on too.

Guys, it is with a VERY heavy heart that I tell you that I won't be able to attend. A few things have come up at home and work and believe me, I've tried to get out of them but it doesn't seem to be working. If everything goes right I'll be able to attend the spring hammer in.

Darren, I can send you the plans to make the kiln controller if you want. I'm pretty sure Dan built the one he is using so he might be able to help. Or we could wait for the spring hammer in and I'll help you then.

I was really looking forward to seeing everyone. I hope y'all can still somehow manage to have a good time without me ;)

By the way, I still have the tomahawk that we forged last year and I haven't touched it yet. I was hoping we could finish it this year. Looks like it will have to wait for Spring as well.

I thought I could be there but I WILL be working Saturday all day so its a no go for me.
