SHTF Gun

The only firearms I own are a stock 10/22 and a junky .22 semi-auto pistol that I got as a gift in my youth (Ramline Exactor :barf:).

The 10/22 would be fine for foraging, but not adequate for defense. The .22 pistol could be thrown at someone, I suppose. I have been considering getting a hadngun suitable for defense, and maybe a shotgun too.

Trying to leave politics out, I want to clear up my position. I have nothing what so ever against immigration when the laws of this country are followed. However many good people have fought and died to uphold the laws and standards that made this country what it is. It sickens me to see the politicians trying to give it all away. The law is the law and those who ignore it have no business enjoying the benefits that we earned THE HARD WAY. Enough Said. Thanks to all for your input.

Thanks...;)

I plan to get the Beretta CX4 in .40S&W to compliment my PX4, but I want to get a .45ACP first, most likely a Kimber or Beretta Special Duty (when they come out). I have read a lot about the CX4's and viewed many 'customized' ones - they are sweet and accurate. I really like the dual purpose magazine.

I have a CX but not a PX. I take it the PX still takes the traditional 92F magazines? I was never sure because the grip angle looks different...

The CX is pretty sweet to shoot, I don't care for the factory sites in low light conditions, they are so tiny you can't see through the peep...no other complaints though.

My idea of SHTF is similiar to survival. What you have with you and what you have TRAINED with extensively will be ultimate deceider of the outcome.

I have served several tours overseas, 4 to be exact. I have had my share of scraps and scrapes and cordon and search operations. I work now in the Federal law Enforcement arena in the wonderful SW. I carry a firearm every day on work and off work. I come from a family of competitive shooters several of which shoot in the top 100 at Perry every year. Relating the capabilities of a squad of trained men to a single shooter with a wife and 2 kids is in a completely different ball game. My idea is to keep the lowest profile possible. Shoot only if required, and if you are required to, put fast accurate rounds on target. (The training part, which is absolutely essential)

I think we get to caught up in the gun part and not enough with common sence and training. My father carries a old single action .44mag. The trigger has been removed and it is a slip only gun. My father enjoys slip shooting and has done it for nearly 50 years. His weapon of choice is this beat up old piece of crap. But let me tell you I've seen numerous bulleyes at 15 meter. Total time from alert to round on target is under 1/2 of a second.

My father used to tell me that you should fear no man with several guns, only the man who lives by one. I agree completely.

The PX4 doesn't take the 92F magazine, but the CX4 & PX4 magazines are interchangeable when you get the correct models. I believe the CX4 and 92 series Beretta's are also interchangeable; again, must have adapter or correct models. Disclaimer: I am not an expert, pose the question on the Beretta forum and trust me, you will get the answer.

Customize your CX4, get a red dot or like, no more peeps... (check out some of the pictures on the Beretta forum 'long gun' page, it is a sticky)

Right Now a rossi single shot .20 gauge and a Marlin .22 papoose are all the long arms I have available so one or both of these is going to be my long arm of choice. Like most I figure the shotgun for home defense and the .22 for SERE tactics. both fold down nicely into packs for taking them into less gun freindly environs.

For Handguns I would probably go with my Kahr K40 and Ruger Security Six .357

I really Love .357 revolvers and carbines in that they can fire .357 and .38 making them extremely versatile and easier to be used by girlfriends spouses and others who may shirk from other harder kicking rounds.

The idea of like caliber rifle and carbine is also a great one. especially if more than one in a group use that caliber.

I would love to get my hands on one of the multi caliber revolves like a colt survivor or a Medusa, they fire any cartridge in a .357/9mm size including .9mm ,380 .357 and .38

I Also take time to ensure that those around me in my family and friends have more than a passing familiarity with fire arms and some survival education so that I ca hopefully to some extent count on them as assets not albatrosses in a SHTF scenario

I enjoy blowing a scumbags brains out as much as the next guy. Often though, I just want the scumbag to stop what hes doing or Ill blow his brains out. So ,what is the proper etiquette, to convey to the scumbag ,to stop what hes doing before he gets his brains blown out?

Ever since I got the puma 92 in .357, I have struggled with this question a little. Both my gf and I shoot a lot of .357, and we both have ,357 revolvers.

But generally speaking, I think the best choice out of what I have is to take a scout-pattern m14 and a 1911.

I think that the fast reloads and cover busting of the m14 make it a better choice than the .357...but man I love that light little gun!

I could always have my girlfriend take it, but then deep down I know it's better to have her take another of my scout m14s and another 1911 from the same manufacturer so that everything will swap parts okay.

It's true that .308 is a bit heavy to pack around, but I'm a big guy and I believe that a hundred rounds of the stuff will fix a lot more problems than I'm qualified to be solving anyway. Besides which I am quite handy with those things out to about 600m although 400m is the range I shoot at most.

It all depends on which type of S is hitting the fan. This provides an excellent opportunity to justify our arsenals- er, I meant "collections." :D

Home- 870 vs. AR vs. AK- :confused:that might just depend on my mood, and what my wife grabbed first.

Woods- .22lr. A rifle and a bazillion rounds (give or take) of ammo in a 10 lb. package.

Urban- F that. There are people who train and get paid to do that. I will be at home, or en route to the woods.
