Sick of hearing the ESEE 5 is overkill.

After years of debating it... I picked one up last month and all I have to say is this is a man's blade! Yeah it's a 1lb quarter inch thick piece of carbon steel. There is NOTHING this bad boy can't do. It can cut paper, slice tomatoes, skin game, chop and split logs, make feather sticks, dig holes, start fires, kill animal's and be used for defense if need be. I find it funny that some of the stupid youtube reviews of people saying its not a defensive knife..lol..yeah I'm sure you couldn't burry a 5 into a person if you had to. I'd rather somebody come at me with a BenBenchmadechmade auto than a ESEE 5! And yeah it could also me used as a pry bar. So? If I had to pick a blade to take into any survival situation... the 5 would hands down be it. Those who say it's to heavy and overkill...give up your man card and stay on the porch with the puppies.

Rant over.

Thanks again ESEE for the best knife ever!

I have a 5 and I like it.

Just the right size.
IMHO

For SD it will get the job done but longer is better.
A lot of fat people out there...you would need atleast a 13inch blade to
reach the vitalst.

You are correct. THAT is not overkill. THIS is overkill:

bk2 it's the same and gathers more love in the forums.
I have come to the conclusion that in here the simpler and utilitarian the knife, the better opinions it gets.
The same happens with big brother kabar and bk9.
esee5 it's too survival pilot to be popular here.

Guess I'll stay on the porch with the puppies. Like the Kabar Becker BK-2, I find it a bit too heavy, thick and so forth for general use.... unless the world is ending as we know it. Hope you enjoy your new knife.

Let's see. ESEE 5, for survival. Really?

If you're going to be one man, alone in the bush, hell bent on survival.....you need a real survival knife.

Look at all these features...

hollow handle
fishing kit
compass
sawtooth spine
bottle opener

What does the ESEE 5 have besides...

sharp edge retention
awesome steel
great heat treatment
bomb proof warranty

I guess if you're into a knife that actually cuts stuff, can handle just about any task, and has a handle that won't break off, go with the ESEE.

Congrats on your first fixed blade:thumbup:

I was pretty fired up about my first as well.

I can't think of anything the 5 can do that I can't do with the 6.

Really? A quarter-inch thick blade five inches long and made of soft, heavy, painted, low-tech steel with a low sabre grind is what you think makes you a man? Those puppies on the porch would eat your lunch.

I carry a bigger knife(scrapyard 711) for less weight and the knife is vastly more useful than your stubby girly knife. :D

A man is an adult human male. That implies some brains. There are better options than your knife but if you love it that's cool too.

Maybe you shouldn't spend so much time on youtube if all it does it get you riled up. You like a huge, heavy knife, that's cool. Why is it a problem for you if other people don't?

You like what you like, period. Wouldn't it be a boring dull world if we all had only one knife to choose ? I like big choppers myself. I have about 10, 1/4" thick knives & 2 thicker than that. They are certainly not all thick blades but what is the sense of having an outdoor knife if it ever breaks ? My knife use is considered abuse by many. Not to me.
