Sig Sauer screwed me over big time in a warranty issue...

I bought a brand new Sig P239 with night sights a year ago and after shooting it 300 times a big gouge appeared in the aluminum rail. After inspecting the gun, I found a burr on the slide catch and it wore through the anodizing on the frame. I sent pic to Sig and they asked me to send it in for repair. I was told the gun would be replaced, so I asked them to send me the Houge grips I had on the gun I sent in. After being dissappointed that a Sig wore out in just 300 shots, I felt I would be getting taken care of by Sig. I got my new gun over a month ago and was not very happy with what I found:

>Standard sights vs. the Sig tritium night sights I sent in.
>Plastic guide rod vs. the metal I sent in.
>Hollow trigger vs. the solid I sent in.
>No Houge grips.

The sights are the only thing I'm really upset about, but the whole gun feels a lot cheaper.... I guess things really were too good to be true.

I immediately contacted Sig about this and they tried to tell me that my Serial Number denoted standard sights (I bought the gun brand new with Sig night sights from a very reputable gun store in town). They said they would send me the grips when they found them, but the guide rod and hollow trigger are standard parts now and I would not be seeing replacements. I email backed and was very upset about receiving a much cheaper gun than I sent in. After a month of emails, Sig sent me a single front night sight (the gun I sent in was a three-dot tritium set) and a bill for $14.95 to cover the shipping on a 0.1 lbs envelope!

I am very upset about this whole issue and they have stopped replying to my emails about my other parts. Sig gladly accepted the old style night sighted P239 (made in Germany and considered higher quality) and shipped me a standard grade USA gun without telling me I'd be receiving a lesser gun. I am almost positive that they sold my original gun as a refurbished model and with the night sights they probably came out ahead after selling it twice (once to me and once to the next sucker).

Calling them is hopeless (took me 2 weeks to get through the first time), they have not replied to my last three emails, and I am down a couple hundred dollars in parts. Please think twice before you buy a Sig. I thought they cost a lot of money because they stood behind their guns, but it turns out they don't care about their customers at all. A gun broke itself because of their mistake. I am not asking for anything more out of them than what I sent in in the first place.

Here are some pics of the original gun (you can clearly see the night sights in these):

Sorry Esav. The post was meant as a warning to potential gun buyers (gadgets and gear), but your right that the feedback is the dominant point of the thread.
Thanks.

I had a SIG Pro when they frist came out that fell apart after about 400rnds. never looked at them again

I am sorry to hear this. I had a SIG GSR 1911 that had several problems and was finally replaced by SIG, they covered shipping all three times I returned it, and the replacement has been a magnificient firearm. I have been recommending SIG to others based on my belief that they would stand behind their product with exempliary customer service. I will have to back off on that, based on this case.

I don't know nothing about this company but by the story told in the post I don't think I would buy from them. :thumbdn:

Sounds to me like you'd been a lot better off to have dressed down the burr, used a little Birchwood Casey 'Aluma-Black' and held onto to what you had....that bit of ano missing wasn't hurting a thing. ;)

Sorry to hear of your plight....

I got a new P229 40 S&W a couple months ago and have been pleased with it so far and am now interested in adding a 45 to my arsenal. After hearing about your poor service experience with SIG the P220 is out and the Kimber is looking like my top choice.
Any one out there have good luck with Kimber?

Do not send any maker a modified weapon, most say that outright in their paperwork.

It's not up to them to "rebuild" your "custom" weapon with the parts you send in on theirs onto a new weapon.

Good reason to inspect/clean your new weapons before you take them out.

Sorry for your plight, and SIG should have caught the bur but I don't find that they really put the wood to you on this deal.

They might not have put the WOOD to him but come on.A weapon with 300 rounds and of this quality, supposedly. The company knows what they ship with the weapons but they're saying that they didn't ship the weapon with those particular options!Serial numbers don't lie,and they know it.They should replace what is rightfully his.

All of the parts on the first gun were factory original (except the grips). I sent the gun in for what they said was inspection, I didn't know they'd replace it. I am upset that they sent me a "replacement" gun with lesser parts without checking with me first. Now they refuse to communicate with me when all I want is the equal of what I sent in.

Mike, just get rid of that Sig and get a Glock. You can replace parts and work on it yourself. It will definitely be reliable and no worries on warranty.

I strip and check any new gun i get before shooting it...your issue could have been avoided.

I also think there may be a little more to the story...I can't see a company like Sig just blowing you off.

Look up the stories on kimber on the gun forums and you'll think Sig is great after.I've owned all those brands including Glock and they all have disturbing feedback with quality and customer service if you do the research.Wants the point? I don't know, I guess the bottom line is all the manufacturers products and service have issues, do alot of research before a purchase.

I am concerned.

This is not a pair of socks or a toaster...it is a firearm, something as personal and necessary as a knife, or good whiskey.:)

I would e-mail them, and let them know that you are contacting the state Attorney General's office....and if they don't respond quickly and with the answers you want to hear, send off all correspondance to the state AG's office and file a complaint.

When a case is opened against a company with the AG's office, that company is usually quite response in a favorable sense...no need to take this lying down.

Wow, I won't be buying a Sig...

but here's my story with Ruger.

I was shooting my SP101 snubnose with some super hot Double Tap Ammo, 1605fps, 710ft/lb. Along with assorted other hi-power loads.

Now let me remind you Ruger has no implied warranty.

I cracked the forcing cone/barrel, so I just sent it in, didn't even have to call. The service info said to remove all items you might want, so I sent the gun in a crappy old hard case I didn't want anymore. I received a notice a week after I shipped it that confirmed Ruger's receipt of my gun. Then a few days later the UPS man comes to my door with a package from Ruger....in it is my crappy case they sent back for free. LOL.

About the same time, a CS rep from Ruger calls to tell me my gun is being fixed and it will be back in my hands less than a month from when I shipped it out. No charge.

While I haven't gotten my gun back yet, I am extremely pleased with their CS. I was already thinking about buying an SR9c but now I will for sure.

thanks for the info and sorry about the gun...sigs off my list...one thing i cannot stand is poor customer service.
